Do 73-77 doors have the necessary openings and such to install early style armrests and door handle mechanisms. I thought I remembered a post a while back indicating that they do ... I'm just wondering if I can convert a 74 door to a 72 door. Perhaps Ford was smart and thought about this when they switched the style so they would only have to stock one type of replacement door and just switch the hardware depending on the year. Thanks ...
Yes, I know a guy who dit it years ago (put a later model door on his '72 Grabber) and he used his original door panel and armrest. I actually prefer the later doors, even though they're heavier (which is bad for racing), I feel safer with the side reinforcments in them (good for the street)...
Yeah but I have a complete White 72 Bucket interior I need to do something with and the white door panels and armrests are pretty near perfect so I would like to use them in the 74.
I was just looking at that same thing today. My uncle was showing me the holes for the latches etc... The later doors can accomodate both style interiors, while the early doors are unique. Dave Edit: Saw the next post after I typed mine... My uncle's doors are 73, I was unaware of the change later. Sorry.
Besides the doors....you willl run into other problems. Because of the seat belts.....the rear kick panels will be different. The front kick panels are also different because of a glove box instead of a tray. There is also the headliner...............
Oh well ... Anyone interested in the white door panels and arm rests? Also have white sun visors and white trimmed weather stripping .... I'm gonna keep the buckets and just recover them to match the tan interior ...
The white rear panels were shot ... one was cracked and one was crumbly .... Gonna post pics on FOR SALE forum ...
