Is there a way to ID what year or model an 8" rear came out of if the tag is missing? Are the axles, center chunk, housing, ect marked in anyway?

The carrier wil have an engineering number cast into it. just a typical ford part number.
The ring gear should have it stamped into it too if it's a factory unit. I don't have any axles out right now so I can't go look to see if there are any, but I'm sure they are marked somewhere.
An engineering number will only get you close since they continued to use parts with the same number until the design changed.(hope that last part made sense)

I know starting in 74 the hubs on the rear axles were a larger diameter to match the hubs for disc brakes. Might help a little.
