I will be getting a rear end soon. 8" 5lug. Not sure what year it came out of haven't talk to the guy or guys yet. I will find out soon. But.. they are all pretty much same size right? anyways I got 70 with 7.5 and 4 lug. I never done or seen anyone do anything like this so everything will be brand new like everything else i've done for most part. Okay I'm getting to the Point.

Will I have to get a new driveshaft or will the one the one I have work? Also how easy and/or long will it take to replace.

What is the best way to keep car in air to do this as far and jacking it up. Where should I put stands.

I think thats all the questions for now guess I will ask more later when i think of them :) Thanks everyone for help

You can use the same drive shaft. The best place to put the jack stands are the rear torque boxes.

Just a couple of tips, soak the u-bolt threads overnight, with some good lube or even some brake fluid. Makes getting them off easier. Also I would take the axles and center section out of the 8in. This will make it easier to install, especially if working by yourself. Can also check condition of gears, brakes and hardware beforehand. Will save a lot of grief after installation. You may have to carry two spare tires, one for the four bolt fronts and then for the five bolt rear, unless you change the drums up front too. Just a thought.
