View Full Version : first time out with the 3.55 gear
chris, ran at the track today..he did great  . his best was ...
r/t .065...1/8.. 9.36...1/4.. 14.687 @ 92.41 mph...
he and m.a.v.s son..sonny, ran together. he has a stang he and mike have been playing with. it was his first time and he cut a r/t .088. i am sure mike will be on with his time slip. good job sonny  . mike got his mav. hooked up pretty good also. .
mike talked to a guy there that was driving a small bumper grabber.
the traction bars...power trac..headers and 3.55 gear made about a 1/2 sec. gain in the 1/8 mile...frank...:bouncy:
sounds good what did it run with other gears ??? what gears was in it 279???
When I put 3:55's in my 77 I could definately tell a difference. Too bad I never got to the track to actually measure the difference.
Very respectable times for a streeter Frank, Chris did good. Better than mine by 2/10ths before I put the new motor in.
IMO the 3.55 is the best all around gearing, good at the track and still a good cruising gear.
I run 2800 rpms at 70 mph on the hwy.
we had a 3.00 gear...1/8...r/t .575...9.875 @ 74.13...frank...:bouncy:
Ok here are a couple of pics from the track:
My sons Mustang ran 15.28 @ 93mph . The car now has a 2,73 rearend with a stock converter (AOD) ...He had hoped for high 14`s but that will come with the future mods he has planned.
My Maverick wouldn`t hook up at all on my first two passes and I "feathered" the thottle ALOT on those runs they were almost I dentical:
1/8 ... 8.687
mph ... 86.09
1/4 ... 13.242
mph ... 106.44
went to the pits lowered the air in the rear tires (Futura GLS radials...Bald in the middle ) then went for the third pass figuring it still would spin. It hooked! BUT I feathered it anyway thinking it would probably start spinning...
It didn`t ! Got back on it hard and it went:
330ft ... 5.560
1/8 ... 8.399
mph ... 86.17
1000ft ... 10.861
mph ... 106.50
I would have liked to run again, and launched it without lifting at all but the stageing lanes were so full there wasn`t time.
Oh well, we all had fun anyway!
You need some slicks or drag radials, Bub. You're going fast!
I agree with Ray ,Mike, some sticky tires would help alot, I got some ET Streets this go round...the BFG's just didn't last long.
Some tweaking here and tuning there, you'll easily shave a few more tenths, the great thing is you all had fun, that's what matters.
i was talking to a lady at a car show yesterday and had told her we went to the track fri. nite. she asked if we "won". i told her we drove it home so that means we "won" :yup: ...frank...:bouncy:
You need to bring it to the Roundup where you can make 20-30 passes in an evening.
Rick ,I plan to pick up some 26x10.5 e.t. streets or slicks and hit the track at least one more time this summer.
I keep going through the last pass in my head and thinking of how I wish I wouldn`t have feathered the throttle when it hooked so well:rolleyes: ... I know I could of got at least a 1.9xx 60ft. and maybe a 12.8 1/4 time out of it:yup:
Like Arnold says...
"I`ll be Back !"
Very similar numbers to my car. Your car can go mid 12s I think if you hook. What's your total advance and what rpm is it all in by? What \heads and cam are you running? Just nosey so don't mind me. Car sounds like it is runnin good
thats quick....congrats...looks like a lot of fun.
nevermind I checked out your website. Very solid motor you got there. Still would like to know your timing though.
Timing is locked out at 35 (no advance)and I have 20 degrees of start retard on my MSD digital 6 plus box.
The motor only has 9.2 to 1 compression. It started out with `65 289 heads and around 10.3 to 1 . One of the heads was cracked when I got it running (machine shop didn`t see the crack:rolleyes: ) and so I went ahead and bought the Victor jr. heads (60cc )That I plan to use on my 393w later on. I dont want to mill the Victor jr.s to get more compression on the 308 because I still want them to be 60 cc when I put them on the 393w .
