i found out today that if i do up the rpms on my engine it will cool down slightly...

my pulley is 6.75" in diameter...i figure if i go with a smaller diameter pulley it will turn the fan faster and therefore pull more air across the radiator,...

    also....water pump....

what P/N water pump is a good one that is high flow? this is probably my biggest problem....not enough water flow...

That's pretty big ... I'm using a Performance Series March Pulley which is 6 inches. They also sell a high water flow ratio which is 5 inches. Keep in mind the fan is beneficial at about 30 MPH and lower and when idling ... above 30 MPH the air is coming in faster than the fan is pulling it ...

well this is strange.....today it ran fine on the freeway to get the tranny adjusting nuts tightened stayed at 190 the whole way on the freeway...then 205 on the city roads ...(thats why it was leaking and slipping)....then on the way home from the tranny shop...it ran hotter ....195 on the same freeway and then it went over 225..i stopped at tacobell and had some lunch...) went home and it never got above 205.... down speedway...alot of traffic...(the only way from freeway to my house)

then i went shopping for my wifes truck parts....and it stayed at around 205..... then went to 215....stoppped at autozone for 10 mins....and then went home and it stayed at 200 the whole way and i went the same way....same roads....same amount of traffic....

it is no where close to consistant....and if it gets above 210...i can cool it down by keeping it in 2nd gear and the rpms about 2000.... but idle....it shoots up....

sounds like it is a water flow issue.... ???

    ideas....
    thanks

    I've had a few
I have a 5 inch pulley that came off my parts truck and it never gets above 190 on the interstate. It will go up to 200 for a minute or so right after I get off the interstate and then drop back down. It varies between 175-190 driving around town.

It used to go over 210 and boil over going down the interstate with a pulley that was a little over 6 inches.

fellows make sure everything is working properly, thermostat is good, correct ratio of water and antifreeze, make sure fins on radiator are not bent and causing an air flow problem and are clean(no bugs or paper or trash). any time you are running on the highway and you come off an exit ramp your temp is going up! the heat was being disipated at road speed and now you are sitting and all that heat is going nowhere, its ok to rev em' up and that will pull more air in across the rad and give some cooling. you can buy products like water wetter that aid in cooling engines down. also you can turn on your heater and displace some of the heat,a little discomfort but may save having a cracked head or block.

i took the heater core out.....there is no reason for it in the summer time in arizona....

and it is just an extra place for more heat to come into the car from....
