I always get nervous driving a car to and fro the track. You "what if" yourself all of the way there.....and all the way back.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

I bought my car trailer just to help eliminate that "what if" feeling so I can relax and enjoy the racing part better.:)

'Been there. I had to be towed back 3 times before I even reached the gates (in a Mustang I used to race).

Ray finally made it down by 8pm...Told him I would bag it (to late). He went anyway. Said he was running in the low 12's. He was unhappy with the results..He took up my offer & parked the Maverick here. Now all he has to do, is drive 2 1/2 hours, get in the Mav & 15 minutes later he's at the track...I even let him park under cover...What a Guy!!!! Let me know when you are coming down again Ray. Bill wants to go & try out the new aluminum heads...I'll probably be up for the challenge also. Maybe we can talk Comet155 into going also...

did he walk back to bellingham. he said he was driving the car down. i remember a good italian restaurant right off I-5, north of everett. i used to stop there on my way back to b'ham. low 12's isnt bad for this time of year. do you know what the density altitude was, and the humidity.:)

His friend Ron drove the other car down. So, that's why he left the Maverick here. The Mav with a spooled rearend, is a nightmare to drive on the street...Plus, he got caught in the traffic & overheated the Mav a few times on the way down...Ray can probably tell you the other info Don....

Hey Fellas. Got home a little while ago. I stayed down in Redmond at another friends house last night and went to see The Dukes of Hazzard movie. It was awesome.
Car ran like hell and I had no time for tuning. Only made three passes, best of 12.41 at around 110.
MPH is down, ET is up. Car was hot the whole time due to overheating four times on the way down. Bumper to bumper traffic in ninety degree weather is tough on beater hot rods with overbuilt motors and underbuilt cooling systems. Also carb is way rich and for some reason it was popping downtrack. ? No time between passes for jet changes. Oddly enough the best pass was the one where my dash lights went out and I couldn't see the tach. just guessed when to shift.
All in all, pretty rough day making a two hour drive in about five hours only to run slow, but no one got hurt or broke, so everything's fine. I don't know about the density altitude, but I can tell you it was still in the seventies and damned muggy when we left around 10:30.
By the way, thanks again to Coop and Cathy for the hospitality and showing me your lovely home. I'll see you again soon.

Thanks Rick. We'll see. It should work pretty well. the front end seems to be coming up pretty nicely with the new 90/10s and those circle track 26x11.5 Hoosiers I got stick really well. If I can just get the car to make a little horsepower I think it should go pretty well.

Oh, one more thing. I managed to cut an .016 light last night. Yess!!

Hmm..keep working at it. You'll get better. ;)

Is that a Pro tree or a Sportsman tree?

I sucketh at the Pro tree. I can usually cut a good light on a Sportsman tree.

Sportsman tree with LED lights. I'm pretty sure I would have red lit on that one if my car was making any sort of horsepower.

Here you go Ray! Just in case you get home sick! Your Baby is safe & sound. Hey Dennis, did you notice that I was kind enough, to let him park next to the Sprint undercover? I must be slipping at my old age...What was I thinking?

Thanks Coop and Cathy for hosting a bunch of degenerates drinking your beverages, using your facilities, tools, etc. It's always cushy to sponge off people. s! ss!

Ray,
Thanks for loaning out the gumballs. They stuck so hard, I couldn't even get 'em to turn.....killer hook up.

Like I've said before. When you meet up with Maverick/Comet people, they don't just become friends. They become part of a big family. It was nice to be able to play with the cars. Then to get, to go racing, after we were done. Had a blast! Bet the track announcer couldn't beleive we had 2 Mavericks & 2 Comets there. Everyone ran some good times, but knew they could do better. Maybe next month, when it cools down a bit...

Much as I'd love to report good times, I did have my ass handed to me by a Civic on my last pass. He ran an 11.74 to my extra crappy 12.4? I'll be back on my old carburetor next time out.

Yeah, sounds like the old pot did better for you. How many runs did you guys get in?
With my neck shot, having to change rags by flashlight, 40 mile drive north, and that possible death tranny stunt,....I folded after the first blast.

I think I made four passes. I did cut an .008 light, so that was a good point to the evening. The car really seemed to go away on me throughout the night. That's what I get for messing with a good combination.

Comet155
2005-08-21, 13:08
Good light.
I cut a .046 -too bad the tranny wouldn't hold. I really felt I had a chance to see some 12.9's Maybe just wishful thinking though.

Seems like your intermediate band lunched on you. Could be a stuck servo though too.
It looks like I might not make it back to the track this year as I've just learned there are only a few more dates and they are all this month. Grr...

Comet155
2005-08-21, 13:27
That sucks big time.
(Warning miscellaneous ramblings ahead).
Of course, look who's talking. I need a snell rated knob cover, dedicated rags, tranny inspection and maybe step up to a box with a rev limiter.
Why the heck doesn't MSD make a soft touch for the standard 6A box! Phhhiiittttt....bang!

We need to get our sh!t together this off-season. Then come next year...how about renting out the frick'in track? Can we get enough people to go to make it cost effective?
Anybody know anything about pulling a stunt like this off?

How about the Holloween Bash (Oct 28th, 29th & 30th)? We can take my motorhome & park it there for 3 days. I can race on Friday & Sunday. Have to work on Saturday. You guys could race all 3 days..Let me know...

Comet155
2005-08-21, 13:39
I couldn't possibly sponge off someone for that length of time, but could hit one of those days. Of course, that time of year.....liquid sunshine problems. Something to kick around though.

Crew member finally got back in town with pics from the August races. Below is me vs a ricer. As you can see my opponent gets the holeshot, but things tend to get a little clearer as the race continues. Tee-hee!

Hey gang...what gives?
Last year ya'll were getting down there already.
Naturally, I have good excuses (dubious slush box reliability, liquid gold costs, rag situation), but whats yours?

Is it the unobtanium prices? That certainly cooled me off. Frankly, I'm semi exhausted 24/7 because I'm on the bicycle a lot lately.

I hear that. Think'in about a scooter for in town. Yet, kinda worried about becoming a hood ornament. Hmmm....maybe convert the XR250 for street use....something to kick around.
