I need to get my 157 tooth flexplate. My engine will NEVER make more than 400hp, and no more than 325 (max, yes!) in the next few years. This car is going to be my daily driver with 3.00 (later 3.55) gears and not spinning over 6 grand. Do I REALLY need an SFI approved flexplate? EDIT: my block is an '89 and my trans is a c4, so I believe i need for a 1-piece rear main as well.
That's a specialty flexplate, and the TCI one from Jegs just over $60. I don't think you'll beat that price for a non-SFI plate. Not sure if Summit has one in the ballpark or not.
not in my opinion. however i think the racers outlet store on ebay has them pretty cheap. just went to the racers outlet store on ebay. they sell a 157/ 28 oz sfi approved for $40.
Hmm, I'm confused. I never noticed that part about for 1-piece or 2-piece rear main seal. I have a 90(ish) block, and this is the one I've got: TCI flexplate Installed without any issues.. is this a problem? I don't see why it would matter.
As far as I know I do. I can't remember if I ever removed the crank before I took the block in and had the motor built, but being a 90 block, it should be a 1-piece rear main.
Bruce, I picked mine up from Art Carr at the World Ford Challenge which is coming up on May 18-21 at Gateway International Raceway. I can't see why a 1-piece or 2-piece rear main would make a difference.
