These are the long lost pictures of my 1973 Maverick ... found them last night cleaning out my garage.

I paid $150 for it ... engine had no oil pressure. Was a 302/3-speed on the tree. Not a spec of rust on it. Both front fenders were dented in like it had hit the bumper of a truck to I replaced them.

Did the body work and spray paint under a tarp in the driveway. I took an 8 week body paint class at a local tech school to learn how to paint.

It ended up have a 1988 5.0 roller with a C4 tranny. LDO seats were recovered in blue velour and the entire thing was painted Grabber Blue. And yes ... I threw away all the V8 Stick Shift linkage ...

The Grabber parts were from a 1970 Grabber my parents owned in the early 70's and sold to my Uncle. My uncle drove it until it rusted away but I salvaged the spoiler, mirrors and gas cap.

The hood was from a 72 Grabber I saw parked in somebodies driveway. I traded them a flat hood and $100 for it ... just went up and knocked on the door with the offer.

I sold it shortly after moving to Georgia and found out a couple of years ago it was totaled in an accident.

Notice the 1970 Maverick in one of the pictures. The hood is sticking up because I rear ended a Cadillac with it on a rainy day and ended up junking it.

The last picture is my 74 Comet.

This was the first Maverick I ever owned ...

Comet was around ... 1987 ... notice we actually had 2 1974 Comets ... you can barely see the back of my Dad's 74 Comet in the picture ... Mine was a 250 with a factory 3-speed floor shift and LDO ... all original factory. His was a 250/C4 .. bench seat car. Mine was actually the same color as his until I had it painted burgundy. That is my Mom's 197x LTD Country Squire Wagon on the other side.

    Maverick was circa 1993 ....

the days of good condition $150 mavericks are almost no more! thanks for sharing the older photos!

now you either did one of the following when you found those photos

    1. you cried and bawled when you saw the photos.

    2. you hit yourself over the head and knocked yourself out for selling those cars :slap:

    3. you banged your head into the wall for hours saying how stupid you were for selling them. :banghead:

    4. all of the above

    :D

my mom would always tell me you better keep your cars one day it might be worth something. well its aint worth alot now but it soemthing we all know is for sure comming up in the ranks of old cars and glad i kept them.

I got $3500 for that car when I sold it back in 1995. It ran a 14.6 1/4 mile in Commerce, GA ... not to shabby for a rebuilt 88 5.0 and a stock C4. I did put a 3.55 Posi 8" in the back though. I actually sold that car to buy my first motorcycle. It was a nice car ... but the cars I have now are nicer so the only emotion I felt was happiness that I still had pictures of it and didn't toss them by accident. :)
