I am wondering how I can change the shocks in the rear of my '69.5 from straight shocks to staggered shocks. It seems like all of the later cars have them, but I don't know if the upper mounts are the same, and the shock plates on the springs are different. If anyone has some insight into this dilema, let me know. The car wheel hops violently when I get down on it, and the staggered shocks seem to be a better deal. Thanks in advance,

    Earl

You cannot change them easily because the upper mounts, which are part of the unibody, are staggered too. Get a good set of traction bars like Caltracs and it will cure the wheel hop.

Thanks, Mavaholic. Thought so. I will look into it.

My '70 has shock setup like yours, had really bad wheelhop also. In fact, one time I broke the spring perches right off the rear end housing and ripped the top shock mount out of the car. I installed heavy duty 4-leaf springs. No more wheelhop and I don't need traction bars.

bmcdaniel; thanks for the tip. I have to change the springs anyhow. Did you use the J.C. Whitney springs, or some other brand? Let me know, so I can cure this evil wheelhop.

I bought a set of 4 leafs from Espo Only thing is they really raised up the back of the car (about 2-3"). Had to buy some lowering blocks.

I used J.C. Whitneys w/polyurethane bushings. That was about 15 years ago, don't know what they sell nowadays.
