i got my new alt. today. it was a direct swap. it is for a 94' big ford truck. it has 95 amps. the only mod. on it was the adj. bolt. it is a metric. i will try some pics.
71gold; is this a 1 wire alt? If yes, which I am sure it is, let us know how you did away with the voltage reg, and what changes you had to make to the wiring. I need to do this, for my electric fan, and need the info. Take care, Earl
That's cool, I like the way the alt looks. I have been using 89-94 3.0 v6 taurus altenators from the wrecking yard they are 100 amp and use all the stock brackets just have to change the pully to V belt and wire in the taurus plug (two wires, sta and field same as stock maverick) and connect the battery wire. I find that most of the charging systems and brakes in the wrecking yard are kinda new. I think poeple buy these parts before giving up on the car. Here the local Pep Boys will exchange the altenator if it has the pro-tech sticker (life time warranty) without a receipt.
Isn't there an issue with running an alt with twice the output as the original? I ask because I also have a 69 Mustang fastback that i would love to upgrade, but I am scared of melting the wiring and/or circuit boards.
I've had the one in my 70 mustang for 5 years and the one in the maverick for two and have had no problems. The amperage isn't always at 100 that's just it's maximum rating. The more the car needs the more it provides. Our 55 amp worked OK but after we got the A/C working and the 6 bulb tail lights on it didn't like setting at stop lights at night with all this running. The higher amp fixed this. With the addition of power windows, locks, keyless entry and cruise control this was another factor for the higher amps
