View Full Version : MY project
fordracing 2003-05-30, 00:02 Well guys,
I have been surfing this site for a little while now and thought I would get a little bit more involved.
I bought this maverick 2 summers ago...The "PLAN" was to bring it home throw a 302 into it and have some fun that summer...well one thing lead to another and...well you guys know the story....
Hoping to get this thing finished next summer. the plan is to add rear disk brakes and finish up the chassis this year.
This is what it looked like when I bought it in Florida.
fordracing 2003-05-30, 00:08 Here is the newest picture...

Thanks maverickMan.....I have seen your as well, also nice looking..
Still tossing around the idea of adding something to the paint job, Not sure what though.
Any idea's guys????
people are always telling me to put stripes or flames on her. I've just always liked the black look with no graphics or stickers. to each his own I guess. I've also got an audi 5000 turbo that is black. I'll tell you, black is a pain in the ass to keep clean. I wish I would have taken more time on my body work because it really shows with that color.
No question, black is one SHARP color... Now that Maverick stands out!
Like MaverickMan said, it is hard to keep clean but the reason I didn't do black was the HEAT factor, man does it get hot when you are racing.
fordracing that is nice setup on the rear, my hat is off to you, are you sure you have enough tire... they look a little small. (lol)
You did a great job!

mavman427 2003-05-30, 06:37 I'm thinking about going with black too. Mine's blue with a blue interior right now, but I'm converting it to black :). These mavs very mean with a good black paint job, fat tires, and 3" chrome exhaust pipes coming out the back :). Well at least I think it will, I haven't exactly seen one yet.
Rick Book 2003-05-30, 12:16 That's one beautiful ride!
I wouldnt' change the color for anything!
I wouldn't add any stripes either.
If you just HAVE to do something, flames wouldn't look bad either.
You gotta keep us updated on the e.t.'s as well !
Keep up the good work,
Rick
damn, I love the stance that car has, with more tire it would look killer. so, I'm assuming its a strip only car? way to go on the work!!
CometGT1974 2003-05-30, 18:05 Takes alot of power to need wheelie bars, i'm dying to know what the power plant will be!!!
Rick Book 2003-05-30, 18:27 Like I was saying up above, beautiful car.
If there is one thing I'd change would be the height of the car.
Looks like you can come down quite a bit on front and back.
Too me, the lower the better (in looks and control).
Still a great looking ride!
That is a good looking car! I didnt understand the tall stance either I`m thinking it might be a scary ride at high speeds.
BY the way ,CometGT1974 Didn`t you post here one time saying that your front springs were clamped to lower the front end?
I cut one coil off of my factory A/C,v-8 Grabber springs and still had to clamp them to get the ride hieght were I wanted it.
Now with the new engine in the car I went riding around(playing)
tonite and the front end does`nt seem to raise up hardly any when I get on it (with 90-10 shocks ) But maybe its because the street tires dont hook AT ALL . Anyway I kicked it in low gear from a 20 mph roll trying out the new Victor jr. heads and all it did was break the tires loose and go to red line (Quicker than I expected!).:D
CometGT1974 2003-05-31, 11:09 Yes MAV, you're right, I did have my front (original V8) springs clamped to lower the front of the car!! It did the job but killed the weight transfer of the car, when I put the new motor in, put the fiberglass hood on and switched to skinny bumpers the front of the car went back up so I had to cut about 2 whole coils out to get it back down, which is how the car sits in the picture below( I took the clamps off when I cut the springs). Since last summer I have changed the entire suspension setup, now I have a set of six cylinder springs for a 70 Maverick. The new springs will transfer weight much better but the car will sit a little bit higher. I want to keep it as low as possible WITHOUT having to cut them. The trick for drag cars is to have as many coils as possible compressed so you have more stored energy (potential energy) to release when the car leaves the line. For my particular setup the spring rate will not be as important since I will be controlling the spring rate with the new QA1 12-way adjustable shocks. But as far as ride hieght goes, I like em low to the ground but on a drag car sometimes it's a compromise....:(

Will, No it will be driven on the street as well, Granted not allot but some. The stance will change a little bit as there is no motor or tranny in the car yet. But I'm still hoping to keep the look.

It will come down some....still have to put engine and tranny in it and then I will adjust rear end height.....

MAV
My ride height will be just a little higher that yours....Glad to hear you like the Victor Jr heads...I have the same ones. did you do any porting or just bolt them on?
Just bolted them on. I am going to build a 393w for it next year
and I plan to have the Victor jr.s ported by Killians Head porting service before they are put on. I plan to have my car in the low
elevens on pump gas (no nitous) and also be very streetable
and reliable...Thats the plan anyway;)
Hey fordracing that is a good looking ride I to have a thing for Black cars but I will tell you this I will never have another one, just for the fact I get tired of cleaning it all the time. I can't complain about the body work on mine my dad and I spent a lot of time on and went through alot of wet paper :D. Good luck on the rest of your project.
Here is a pic of mine

My daily driver is black, or should I say grey, as it is so hard to keep clean. Black will be the last colour I ever pick again!
Just an opinion but a clean and straight black car is hard to beat but I think the next one I build will be white :D
