    Hey Guys,

Where can I find the little square nut inserts that attach the hood hinges to the engine compartment? I've got one that's missing, and I would like to replace it with a similar piece. I know that I can just weld in a nut of the appropriate size and will accomplish the same thing, but I would like to just use the original part if possible.

I'm guessing that a machine parts store may have something along those lines...any ideas as to other locations where I may be able to find something? I'm going to check around a little tomorrow, so any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

I thought about that, but they're not attached to the hood. They are actually a part of the body. They are the three attachment points for the hood hinges to the engine compartment itself. The ones for the hood are all there. If I found some on a donor car... I'm not sure I could get them out without destroying them... I'm just not sure. Anyone have any further insight on this? Anybody ever remove them from another car? If they're not too hard to remove, I'm sure they're a pretty common on other Ford's.

    Thanks,

I am pretty sure they were welded on. They don't just "pop" off. Best to just get one off of a junk car.

    GOOD NEWS:

    http://www.amkproducts.com

makes every single fastener ever used on any car ....

    You need part#

    F-1482
HOOD HINGE NUTS (in fender aprons)
    5/16-18 PIERCE NUTS

    BAD NEWS:

They are 6 Nuts for $4 .... and they have a minimum order of $30.

    REALLY BAD NEWS:

I just ordered a RAMPLOK Manifold Bolt Kit from them for my Maverick as well as some other miscellaneous bolts and nuts to complete my manifold install ... I could have had them thrown into my order ... but that was 2 days ago and they have already shipped ... :(

Apparantly they are not welded ... but use a special installer that actually "pierces" the nut into a piece of sheetmetal ... making the hole and fastening the nut at the same time .. I would assume to replace one it would have to be welded though ...

Thanks Dan. I'll check around and see if I may be able to get them anywhere locally, or if they're a specialty item that will have to be ordered from the company mentioned. Welding in a nut and plate is sounding like a viable option. ;)

    Thanks,
