I got my comet -74, the guy told me everything should be working fine, and it really did for like an hour or something, then it just died on me in the middle of rush hour traffic on the motorway, so when I got back home I started looking over the engine, and the first thing I noticed was the alternator belt that was more like a stationary rubberband, then I noticed there was no air filter and no gasket between the carb and the airfilter, it runs really nice for a while but sounds kind of squeeky and screamy, and I don´t think it loads the battery at all, and the alernator light is glowing red... My first car, and my first look under a hood, so if anyone has got the time to answer my "stupid" questions and maybe know a place that might ship internationally I would be more than happy... Thanks anyone...
"The only stupid question is ......one that is not asked", Sounds to me like you need an alternator belt, you should be able to get those at any auto part store. As for the gasket between the air cleaner and carb as well or you could make one out of cardboard.....a perfect circle
Fitted and looks nice...now lots new problems under the thread "whats under my hood and what do they do" or something like that... Thank you very very much!!!
im guessing your battery died because of the POS alternater belt you have. all the other things should be fixed too but i dont think thats the actuall problem goodluck
might want to invest in a chiltons manual for the maverick/comet. they're on ebay a lot and some members on here usually have them for sale. good luck.
who needs a chiltons when you have this place?? you guys have been more helpful that that book could ever be
I´ve been to loads and loads of forums regarding other things, but nothing and I really mean nothing beats you guys, the ford - 74 shop manuals (all 5) are heading this way as we speak, from the great USA, found them on e-bay for nothing, but with the shipping... uggga bugggaaa.... Thanks again!!!!
