I took my tank out and took it to the local radiator shop and had it cleaned out after finding rust in my fuel filter. I put the tank back in today and put gas in it and now I have pin holes in it. How did this happen? Someone on here told me that I should seal it with POR 15. How much do I buy 1 quart? 1 gallon ?And will that be enough to seal the pin holes? What should I do?

    Have a look at: www.por15.com
They have a tank sealer, I just bought some to seal my new tank.

what you should have done.. is just have the radiator shop seal your tank after cleaning it. ive taken every tank i ever needed done(and that'd be alot of em) to the rad. shop to clean and seal. beats all bar none and most likely cheaper money and time wise. and you know( or should hope) that a professional is doing it.;)

I have a tank like this too, but I haven't used the POR15 tank sealer. Do you coat the outside of the tank or pour it in and roll the tank around? :hmmm:

You should use the cleaner and etcher first, then slosh the coating stuff around in the tank. Did mine about 15+ years ago and it's still holding up.

I would have except they wanted $300 Smackers to seal it. I figured I did not need to spend that kind of dough.

I did have the radiator cleaned at he radiator shop. Would that suffice for the cleaner and etcher?

I also had a friend tell me that we could fiberglass the bottom of the tank. What do you all think about that?

I don't think I'd fiberglass it. I've seen fiberglass let loose from metal too often and the gas may be more apt to make it happen here.
Get a gas tank sealer kit from one of the reputable companies such as POR 15 and use it exactly as their instructions states. The sealer will fix the pinholes from the inside. I also put a coat of the standard POR 15 on the outside after I found one more pinhole...problem solved. And you can doo all of this yourself...just don't be in a hurry.
