1971 200cc with A/c. I just recently changed the waterpump and thermostat and also replaced the sparkplugs. The number one cylinder spark plug was so gunked up I doubt it was getting a decent spark. Oil was also leaking around 2 sparkplugs. When I start car in the morning it runs fine but then when it warms up and runs for a while it idles low (no tachometer) and shuts off frequently when idling at a stop or when parked. It starts right back up.
Try turning up your idle. When you say gunked up do you mean oil fouled?? Doe it do it with the AC on or off?? If it only does it with the AC on then you need to adjust or replace the Idle dash pot on the carb. Its supposed to kick the idle up to compensate for the added load of the compressor.Hope this helps
I'll try adjusting the idle screw. As for cylinder one, lots of oil built up on the spark plug. Also, I get some smoke coming out occasionally, I have a suspicion that the cylinder is probably worn. I haven't noticed the AC causing the idle to go up. But then again it doesn't stall with the AC on any more than without it.
Sounds like low idle.Seems like your engine is a bit tired though. If it puffs smoke on start then goes away its valve seals/guides.If its constant then its piston rings. If your mav is an automatic set the idle with the car in drive(get a freind you trust) to sit in the car while you do it.If your emission sticker is still on the shock tower, the info and proceedure will be written on it.I think you need to have the ac on also when you set it.
Man, I sure hope you don't have a 200cc engine in your Maverick. Sounds like your idle is set to low and you have a leaky valve cover gasket.
