So a monthy ago a member here wrote a thread telling about his new purchase of this new Doug Herbert 50,000 volt hei ignition with a sale price of 99.00 bucks if you mentioned you saw it advertised in a mustang magizine ,well i ve been wanting to know how it proformed and if it fit well in a 289 torker intake but have not got any replies . Any body know if it does fit well in a Mav with a 289 torker and does it work well . I would assume that the screaming deal at 99 bucks is up by now ,but still want to know :cheers:Jimmy2gates

My uncle has one on his 289 with the T289 intake and Holley carb.

    He regrets getting it.
The thing is huge and limits his room to work on the carb, severely limits his choice of air cleaner, and crowds his MC bar.

I don't understand the want of an HEI myself.
The module is in the dist and exposed to too much heat. Common HEI problem. The Chevy guys go to some lengths to relocate the module outside of the dist, while all the Ford guys say they want to get the module off the engine bay skirt.

Fact is that the DS fits much better, is pretty much bulletproof, and if you want a module with more bling... use an MSD box instead of the stock module. MSD distributors are based on the Ford DS ignition because it is so dependable. That says a great deal to me. That and the fact that I have used them and can't break 'em.
