The new grabber I got last week has a repaired tank...large metal plate welded on the bottom.....I pulled a tank off my 71 parts car, which was a driver but was hit in the rear and the rear frame was buckled. Now that I have emptied it and cleaned the mud and grime off of it I will find and radiator shop to clean and preasure test it. Here is my real question, once it is back should I etch primer and paint it or have it powder coated?

I haven't seen anybody say that they have had a tank powder coated.

I would invest in a sealer kit ......do away with the radiator shop. You will see the slightest leak and the sealer seals the smallest of leaks(especially at the seams. The kit also has a etching process that helps the sealer adhere better, and it will withstand any type of racing gas.

I planned on sealing the inside with one of those kits....what about the exterior of the tank....extching primer and paint or have it media blasted and powder coated?

I have seen tanks painted and and they hold up well, I have had and used swear buy powder and ceramic coating but somethings don't go well with these coatings. mostly like sharp edges, like where the edges or seems of the tank are, seem like the coatings do not adhere to the edges of the metal very well. They tend rust through in these areas. I would paint it with a good car paint or something like what Frank used, JMO.:D

Guess I will get the tank seal kit, then when I take the car to be media blasted I will have them blast the tank and then seal the outside with por15 or rust bullit and paint it black.
