When I am sitting in a drive thru or let the Comet idle for a while there is a weird horn type noise from the engine. I think it is because the engine is over heating but why they noise?

I replaced the factory propeller with a racing style propeller, could that have done it? The noise disappears when I rev the mill to 1500rpm or better.
The radiator is also a pathetic thin thing. I want a thicker one with more rows.

If it is indeed overheating it could be the steam rushing past the cap as it relieves the pressure. I've heard them do that before. If you can, replace the radiator and the cap at the same time and it will probably fix the noise.

It makes me go OH SH*T I GOTTA GET MOVIN!
I don't think the new propeller is moving enough air when the car isn't moving.
That stinks because i like it.
Oh well, I'll bust my knuckles and put the old one back on i guess.

The shroud fell to pieces shortly after I brought her home.

Be careful! If its overheating that is causing the noise, it's under alot of pressure. If it decides to blow a hose or something, you could get burnt. Avoid standing close to the engine compartment and be ready to JUMP out the way.

Oh I'm gonna do it tomorrow after work before I drive it again. I REALLY want a thicker radiator with more rows since my shroud is kaput.
Is there an electric fan I could use instead of a propeller?

There are several electric fans that fit our cars. Find a "pancake" fan on e-bay in the $30-40 range and set it up on a thermostatic switch so it kicks on at 195 and turns off at 175. Or, for the short term, just wire it on to run when the car is running. Will take a little longer to warm up, but just might be what you need when sitting still...

    Pancake fan, got it.

    Going to buy one asap.
Any ideas on a better radiator? I want 3-4 rows.

Also, I have seen some of those fans at AutoZone. They come in several different diameters. Not sure what the CFM rating is on those, but be sure to compare with the ebay ones. Might be able to save a little by not having to ship...

The radiator in my Comet right now is woefully thin in my opinion. Too thin for a V8 I would think.

My shroud fell to pieces on the ride home from the guys yard I bought it from.
I removed the crumbling, splintery POS and tossed it in the burnpile for Algore to cry over.
My existing radiator is lame and green and thin so Imma get a more manly one soon.

    Thanks for the ideas!

I have the same one Frank. I think that they are used in the Lincolns also. I have mine wired up with one thermostat for the low speed and an adjustable for the high. I've got it set to have the high speed come on at 210 and the low at 180. I've never actually heard it kick into the high except when testing.
