When you changed from the top loader to the T5, how close is the shifter hole to the original? Also is the drive shaft yoke the same?
I really don't know how close the shifter is to the original hole because my car was originally a column shift. I used Hurst and Mr. Gasket shifters on the 4-speed, they lined up about the same. The 5-speed's shifter comes up through the same hole but I had to enlarge the hole and reshape the top of the trans tunnel for the T5's shifter tower and rail housing. Since my car is a '70 it has the smaller, rounded tunnel, not like later Mavs. As far as slip yokes matching up it depends on the year and version of Toploader, some had 28 spline shafts and some had 31 (just like 9" rears). I think in my case the splines fit but the OD of the yoke was smaller and wouldn't touch the rear oil seal of the T5. The T5 is a little bit longer, about 3/4" if I remember right. So between that and the fact I have a 9" rear which has a longer pinion, I needed a shorter driveshaft. I had one custom made by The Driveline Shop. 3" heavy wall tubing, new yokes with 1330-series u-joints, new T5 slip yoke, all balanced as an assembly for $200 including shipping (about 8 years ago). Guess I wasn't much help with your questions!
