Anyone in the Knoxville, TN area plan to go to Pull-A-Part up there soon? There is an '80 Pinto on row 306 that was just put on the yard yesterday. If anyone will be going by there, I'd greatly appreciate it if you check to see if it has a 4 cylinder with the front sump oil pan. If gas wasn't so expensive, I would just drive up there. But I'd hate to go all the way up there and not find what I'm looking for.
Pull-A-Part does not offer services like that. They know they have a Pinto on the yard. They don't know, or care what specific parts are on it.
I wasn't sure... some do, some don't. Is it worth your gas to go get it if they do have it? Call them if so. Sorry, lol im just anxious to see that motor run in the maverick and be driveable... so go get it. lol
The only other option is to buy one from a guy off a Pinto forum. That will end up being about $115 total after shipping and everything. I've got a little '92 Nissan Sentra that gets 35-38 mpg usually, you figure it's roughly a 420 mile round trip (and only about half that from my grandparent's house). I can get the oil pan for about 15 bucks there. I think it's worth it. Calling them won't do any good. All they know is there is an '80 Pinto on the yard, they don't know anything else about it.
Pull-A-Part, Inc. is unique in that most of their cars are bought from tow trucks bringing in cars for scrap value. The car is placed in the yard according to manufacturer and recorded on which row it is located. When you go there, you type in the car you are looking for and it gives you a list by year and row number. They do not inventory parts. They have no clue and they will not go look for you. They don't have that kind of manpower. You find it, you pull it. That's why V-8 engines can be bought for $150; $170 with warranty. Complete rear ends with disc brakes can be bought for $114.
If they have no clue on what kind of car it is they will make up something. Saw a 55 Ford marked as a 1960 LTD, Packard marked as a AMX.
I guess that's a plus and a negative. Around here I can get them for that price, and they inventory. Still have to pull them. Other yards are a bit higher, some cheaper.
Those prices are cheeeeeeaaaaapppppp for a metro area like Atlanta. The yards that pull parts and inventory them are super high.
