View Full Version : OMG... I need a bigger shop.
ratio411 2008-08-16, 16:33 I have been trying to organize my shop lately, and between employees laying stuff around willy-nilly, Dad passing and his stuff piling up in my shop, and quickly running out of space... I isn't working.
I am overwhelmed. I have business equipment and vehicles I cannot store indoors anymore. All my vehicles never fit anyway, but now I can only park one van and one trailer. My Sprint is outdoors now. I have more 'stuff' than your corner hardware store. I love tools, but dayum.
Now we just might see a hurricane this year...
Sorry. Just had to vent...;)
The pics say it all.
Maybe next week I finally get it sorted out.
I am going to try my hardest. The Sprint will really need to fit in there if this storm comes this way. The driveway it sits in right now has a view of the Gulf. My shop is a half mile or so inland, so it is a substantially safer place for the cars.

Let's hope so Dave. I thought the same thing 3 years ago when I put 3 Mavericks at our dealership which was 1 mile inland. Got 4 ft of water in them.
Let's just hope there is never another Katrina.
Oh, I agree...time for a bigger shop!
ford84stepside 2008-08-16, 16:54 Dave, like Dan Hines said before, Mavericks aren't easily replaceable. Park the van in the yard [if it has insurance on it], put the Mavericks in there any way you can. And you can send me some of those spare tool boxes and other stuff. :rl: Nobody needs that many tools!:D
Hey,
Atleast you have a shop! I have half my stuff in my garage & shed, and the other half in one of those 10X20 storage places, and thats just my work stuff, Maverick stuff could fill another 2 car garage.

Im too late... Thats the first thing I though when I opened the pics.
Hurricane time... Dads stuck on the road and may not make it home in time to get his freshly painted Mav to safety. (its still in the assembly phase) St. Marks FL was 8 feet or more under water when Denis came through a couple years ago.

Hopefully it will weaken before it gets there. We've all had more than our share of hurricanes the last few years.
don graham 2008-08-17, 14:34 I showed that picture to my wife and said "and you thought I had a lot of tools".:2thumbs:
scooper77515 2008-08-17, 15:19 You have plenty of shop...
See all of that empty space above the stuff?
Hint. Hint.
Put in a ramp or a lift and make a two storey shop.

I have considered that.
You know, back in better times, I had permission from 'the boss' to buy a lift and put in there... But I decided to hold off.
We all need a bigger shop.
I need more room for cars, machine tools, sand blaster, and benches (etc...)
I don't think you can have too much space.
(its like a girlfriend or wife who wants too much sex)

Blast cabinet...
facelessnumber 2008-08-18, 11:16 I wish I had this problem!
Being the helpful guy I am, say the word and I will haul off some of that junk for ya....
Matterick 2008-08-18, 11:23 i measured my garage and if i parked my car in it, i'd have about a foot to walk past the front of the car. what were the builders thinking!
ratio411 2008-08-23, 10:19 Well, the storm is pretty much here... but it's just a bloated rain shower. Nothing to fret over.
However I did make a bit of progress and get the Sprint squeezed into the shop anyway. You can't walk around the car with everything packed in around it, but it's safe and dry.
Yellow72Mavrick 2008-08-23, 10:45 Dave you already got a big shop there, anything bigger and you are talkin warehouse, but I wish you much luck getting it done.

In all fairness though, this is a business.
I wish I had a personal hobby shop this big.
As construction businesses go, this is a very small shop.
Al Martin 2008-10-30, 18:20 Depending how high your walls are, come out with a 4ft ledge about 8ft up or so on your inside wall, all the way arround the perimeter of your shop. Then mount 1iinch conduit with lag screws to the face, and preformed 90's for the corners. Then get a old damaged aluminum extension ladder cut to size. Then use a 2 inch angle with sprung casters mounted on the bottom. For the top get 4 lLARGE vinyl patio door type rollers with a radius large enough to rest on the conduit. Then mount in a bracket with the rollers mounted on each side of the conduit,(top and bottom of conduit). When you step on the ladder it locks firm with the floor. Dont forget a handle too.
Sounds complicated but isnt. Just like the old library ladders. Be amazed at how much STUFF you dont need that uses precious floor space. Air-compressor, furnace etc.If ya got a fork-lift, youre really set too. A neighbor of mine has his this way, SMART set-up. Then you can dedicate certain areas underneath for certain tools and such. I like the fact you can put overhead lighting in your work areas right above your head, and dedicate areas with switches, instead of the whole shop being lit up$$
Gonna do my new shop like this. its a great set-up. That is if we dont have a revolution on our hands after NOVEMBER.
Regards.
Al
