he built a custon maverick from a jo-han model that i had, and built it almost identical to my '71. he did a really good job on it. it was painted with the exact same colors as my color, features a 302 under the hood, black bench seat interior and a nice chrome shifter handle as featured on my 5sp. all i can say is that i owe him one.... ill just never tell him that :p

Okay, since you don't have a grabber hood for the model, you gotta put that humongous scoop on your real car!!! Thank your brother for that too! :biglaugh:

Seriously though, It really looks great!

Now I just need to get off my butt and get mine done. I bought a 68 Shelby model to get a hood and tail lights so I can try to duplicate it. Gonna be fun if I can just get the time now.

I wonder if one of those resin hoods would work on a fresh cherries diecast? :hmmm:

mean_maverick
2009-05-17, 13:03
if not it would be close. i know the cherry cars are 1:24 and the jo-han's are 1:25

I set my resin hood on the cherry cars, and its about 1/16'' to short. The sides fit really good.I'm thinking of adding to the rear or to the front some day when I get caught up with a hundred other projects.

No i don't think they make it anymore. The last time i saw one it was being made by Testers. It seems to pop up every once and awhile. I'm sure it will pop up again, how exciting.:burnout:

Hey, if the grabber hood works out, i seen a kit at hobby lobby for making molds and casting your own plastic parts. Thought about getting it, but didn't.

That is an excellent model! There are standard hoods on ebay or buy a "Palmer" Maverick kit and cut the hood out of the model, file, sand, paint it!

I seriously doubt it. From what I understand they leased the molds from Seville Enterprises who went out of business not to long after the contract to produce the models was up. The business has changed hands several times since it was a major model kit company with pieces of different molds being either lost or sold for scrap by disgruntled former employees.

The reason I doubt that they will ever be reproduced again is the guy that owns the company and molds right now isn't making kits. Rumor has it that he is actually trying to sell the company again.

You can read more about it here:

Not a problem, I'm glad I could help! :Handshake

As for the kits... My personal beliefs are they need to be built! :yup: That's what they were made for in the first place.

I've gotten into many arguments on different model forums for saying that too. :D

You ought to check out the rest of the site!

There are some really good builders on there along with tips and tricks from some of the best builders (my personal opinion) in the hobby.

I'll have to check it out and yes some day i will build the models when i have time as i want to do them right. :tiphat: With 4 young kids (11 years and under) it's hard to find some quiet time to do them in peace, hell just ask my wife she is with them all day long while i rest :D at work.

someone should start making these kits again. i would buy a dozen just to have and experiment with. the only cars i have are die cast, 1:60 1970 yellow maverick with american graffiti on the rear 1/4 and 1:24 1974 orange grabber also from american graffiti

I presently have over 100 die cast mavericks with a few comets mixed in. Some duplicates but not many.
