Charcoal canister removal/correct plumbing

    I've been trying to retighten my header bolts and can't really get to the #4 header bolts, the charcoal canister is in the way along with my trans dipstick... anyway I was thinking of removing the canister. what are the pro's and con's of removing it and how should I plumb the lines that go into it? if it's removed should I place a small filter on the vent line from the gas tank?

    Right now I have the line from the gas tank going into the canister and a line is running from the canister to a vacuum port at the back of my intake manifold and the other tube which would go to the air cleaner is just shoved into the corner of the engine compartment... I don't think thats the best setup but thats how it is right now...

    Does anyone have any pics of how you have yours setup? or a discription?

    I don't have to worrie about emissions where I live so it's just a matter of whats best for the engine and or cleaning up the engine compartment. thanks.

    Just go in the back and find where the vent line comes out of the top of the tank. Cut it there (no sparks please) and extend it so it is low, right behind the axle. Then remove the canister and rest of the line. Thats the way it was done pre 70 anyway.

    Thank you, but right now I'm just looking for what I need to do under the hood at the moment.

    He is telling you how to remove it completely, the only other thing you have to do is plug up the vacuum port on the intake, then you can remove the whole canister assembly from the firewall if you wish.

    Thats pretty much what I did, I left the rubber line on the metal one and just pushed it off to a corner, pluged the vacuum port on the intake with a rubber cap/plug, and removed the canister. I also removed the vacuum canister while I was at it... I don't have my ac/heater controls plumbed correctly so I had the vacuum line running into the car for the actuators pluged off anyway. thank you.

    does anyone know where I can find a vacuum diagram for the inside of the car? I messed up which vacuum line goes on which side of the actuator a long time ago when I changed my heater core... also jacked up the door which seporated the ac and the heater core so I now have no ac but I do have a heater... I should have gone the other way sents I line in az...

    I just thought there were more vacuum actuators and vacuum controled doors than that...
