But I'm going to Bonneville this week for speed week. My buddies and I decided that it's time to scope out the salt racing. We were thinking a year or two down the road we will be ready to field something out on the lake bed. It's a 12 hour drive (or more with our 40ft 5th wheel) from Phoenix, split between the 6 of us driving. I'm not sure what we will find, but we expect to have fun, just a guys weekend (and lots of driving!). Hmmm...turbo Maverick on the salt? I wonder what class that would be in...makes you think!?!

Been out there twice a buddy of mine runs a yellow and purple studebaker hawk out there.
MaKe sure you get reservations in Wendover in advance you know like yesterday is when you should get them, Wendover is not much more than a couple of casinos and one or two ok strip clubs.(believe me I know use to work construction and did some dirt work on a school out there for six months. I dont gamble that much any more because of it. Being destitue broke for a month thanking god that the company was paying for my room and board because I wasted my entire paycheck in 3 days... )
Speed week out there is the biggest thing wendover has going for it and the few casinos get filled up pretty quickly.
Also take a jacket and some good sunscreen it can get downright cold on the salt first thing in the morning with the wind blowing across the flats but when the sun comes up you can get burned from both ends pretty quicly due to the reflection off of the salt.

Oh and if you get the chance and have extra money check out the pawn shops out there. You would not believe how many people from salt lake loose their entire paycheck in wendover before they put gas in their car, I have gotten some really cool stuff really cheap becaue of it.

Thanks for the tips Mark! We'll have our 40ft 5th wheel for bedding down in. We've been told that finding a camp area shouldn't be a problem (they don't allow it on the salt at night).
