got the motor together and fired it up to find out that the flexplate weight was hitting something (probably the inspection plate) and is breaking the weld on the weight it is NOT a roller motor...just a early 80s 302 can this flex plate go on a non roller motor??? is the flex plate bad???? should we use a stock early 80s flexplate??? any ideas?
Are you sure the torque convertor went all the way in? I've had it where the weight hit when the convertor was not lined up and pushed all the way back into the tranny. Also how early 80's. Right around 81 or 82 was when the balance weight changed.
According to what I just read, 80 302s was a 28 balance and 81 was a 50 balance. Is it possible that the flexplate is warped? Motor plate bent? I would want to compare it to another one before I bolted another one on.
Don is right about the converter not being all the way in, but I figured you knew that, the ole 3 click rule.
torque converter was in all the way... we did have it running (and it was a monster) im off to look for a new flex tomorrow
