I went over to the Pull-A-Part in Birmingham this morning to see if I could find a mini starter for the Mav. My old one crapped out last weekend without a warning, just glad I was at home. I had my list of possible suspects picked out, my tools and the little red wagon to put my treasures in. First car I walked up to, a 97 T Bird, engine was done gone, but lo and behold, they left the starter dangling by the cable! Looks like it's going to be a good day I said! Quick and easy, got cables and factory wiring harness by removing one ground bolt! That was great, but could it get any better? Next on the list, a vacuume cannister. Found a plastic ball one that looked good, got it, then a few minutes later, found a coffee can one that looks brand new! Got it too. OK, got what I needed, so go to the Chrysler section to look for a rear wiper motor for a friends van. On the way there, go by the golden oldies corner to look at a Maverick they have had since June 26. Don't figure there will be much left, but check it out anyway. First thing my wife says is, " Here's the Maverick, and it's still got BOTH bumpers!" I'm about to run at this point! Sure enough, 70 Mav, both bumpers there but surface rust. No matter, gonna paint them anyway! Both are perfectly straight. Get the rear for myself, the front bumper, valance, and gravel guard for Clay Dye so we can change his 74 over. Doors and all the interior was gone, hood and trunklid and grill gone too. I6 auto car. Only rust was a fist sized place in the rear floorboard! Wish I'd had a sawzall, I'd got the quarters, they were rust free!. I was really surprized it had been there that long and the bumpers were still there. Went on over and got the wiper motor for the van, and called it a day. Too damn hot! I also found two sets of perfect leather Eddie Bayer buckets in two Explorers that were Cash for Clunkers cars. Ran out of money or I'd got them, too. They had signs on the windsheilds saying every part was for sale except for the engine and engine parts . Both had 4.0 sixes in them. Both had rear disc, too. Again, outta money, so I had to leave them . Going back when it cools off a little, hope they still have those buckets. Don't know how well they would fit in a Mav, but they would sure be comfy if I could make them work! All in all, a great day! Now I just got to brave the heat in a little while and get that starter put on. Then I can finish today with a nice in the Mav!
awesome score! i went to the junkyard and the mav there was crushed...they're trying to make room for the clunkers
Great find. I've also seen those Eddie Bauer seats in the Pull-A-Part and thought they would go good in a Maverick.
Cash for clunkers is a crock of sh**. Politicians should be ashamed of themselves. Great scores by the way!
