ok guys finally going to start a real build page. As many of you know the project has been off and on for the last several years. Over the past couple months it's been reving up. I've been getting parts together for about a month now, and purchased a complete wrecked but running 96 Cobra for parts as well. I basically have almost everything to get it running minus a radiator and hoses.

Changes:
It will now have the Cobra's 8.8 w/4.10 gears disc brakes, and Cobra front brakes with 13" rotors. Wiring is going to be all Cobra none of the factory Maverick stuff will remain. Reason for that is I will be using the Cobra cluster, pedal setup, steering column, sound system, fuel system, and going to try a fit the entire a/c system in the Maverick as well that way as far as the wiring goes it will all be plug and play.

Earlier this week I purchased the front and rear seats. I was not crazy about the Cobra tan leather seats and really wanted something non-power. After looking aftermarket I starting looking OEM and what I ended up with was Hyundia Tiburon 03+ seats. These are black leather, manual adjustments, fit great, and are very comfortable. I got the whole seat front and rear for $200. Im very happy with them and now you have another option for your Mavericks.

I will keep posting pics here is what I have for now.

I just picked up a 4.6 DOHC for a future project a few nights ago. Not a Mav though.
If you know of anyone else looking for one let me know. I have the whole setup out of this Cobra I'll let go for a good deal. I even have a video of it running before I took it out.

Just wondering how the back seat from that Hyundia Tiburon are going to fit. Will it take much modification to get them into the back of the Mav?
Also, how are you getting those Cobra front brakes with 13" rotors to fit on the Mav spindles? Are you using some kind of adapters? Thanks. John B

You wouldn't happen to have an extra 6 speed for one of these?

I wish those are few and far between. I'm using a T-45 5 speed. A 6speed upgrade will be down the road.

Since mine is mini tubbed, I'm going to have to take about 2+ inches out of the center of the bottom portion of the rear seat and about an inch from both sides of the back. These would probably fit in a stock Mav?

As for the brakes, I'm using wilwood pro spindles for the Mustang II suspension. They have a late model style hub then you slide your rotor on. I have to make a caliper mounting bracket but wilwood makes that easy with multiple mounting points on these spindles. The bracket will be made from 3/8 inch steel plate.

Check before cutting! We mini-tubbed my '72 (2" per side) and the bottom seat fit perfectly with no narrowing. Just hoping to save you some grief...

Well Im not going to let one person spoil it for everyone else thats interested. Guy's I will be posting alot of Modular engine related info. I have just got the majority of the parts needed to really get this moving along. Takes alot of time to read about wiring and such with these engines. I plan on really putting together a nice article on just wiring one of these engines and what you need and what all you can get rid of. Hopefully all this information will be useful to someone planning a build like this. I will keep the updates coming!

Man I wish I didn't have to cut it. But theres just no getting around it. Seat bottom will not slide all the way back...Seat back not even close.

I hope nobody minds but I'm going to try to enjoy this as a "Maverick Build" thread. Build being the process of accomplishing the task of putting this car together. I think ModMav71 has some interesting ideas for his car and would like to enjoy watching his build come together. There are many other aspects to this build than just the Modular Motor. This after all is not a tech article on Mod Motors. I've read many build threads and do not find it in any way unusual that the pics of all parts of the vehicle are not posted as evidence of their existence upon its immediate announcement.

I hope the moderators find it fitting to remove all posts in this thread not pertaining directly to this project. (including this post)

Thanks. Let the building resume.

Thanks, it needs some work to the inner lower door area. Had some rust in the passenger side lower quarter thats been fixed. As for rust thats about it. Gots some dings here and there but nothing major. I wish I could just clear it and leave it like that lol.

just some possibley help full info i found. i was looking to change the dash in my car with fiberglass dash. when i was looking at what fiberglass dashes were the same width and the mavs, the mustangs always had the same dash width as the maves. so you could put that cobras whole dash in or you could get a fiberglass one that will fit the cobra gages and air conditioning. just food for thought. im looking forward to folling this thread and keep the pics comming.

Making some progress...with the fuel system at least. Since Im using most of the Cobra wiring and the Cobra gauges I decided to use the Cobra in-tank fuel pump and sending unit, this also allows me cheaper upgrades for a fuel pump in the future if I want to run boost. The Cobra tank itself was to wide and I just didn't like how it would fit in the Mav. So I built a hybrid using a new 68 Stang drop in from the top tank. It turned out better than I thought it would. I have about 8 hours in the tank and shortening and modding the bracket that mounts the fuel pump. All thats left is to clean up the welds, a leak test, and re-paint. Here's the step by step.

Mustang tank before
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l43/BikeINK/Tank-Mod-b4.jpg
First cut. This cut out is for the top part of the Cobra tank that I cut off so the fuel pump will sit higher and not hit the bottom of the tank even after being shortend.
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l43/BikeINK/Tank-mod.jpg
Heres the pieces I cut off the Cobra tank.
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l43/BikeINK/Tank-mod-1.jpg
The fuel pump sending unit mount. I bent a 3/8" lip all around this way I will have plenty of material to weld to since the top of the tank is uneven.
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l43/BikeINK/Tank-Mod-sending-unit.jpg
I also cut out the internal baffle/sump. This makes sure that at anytime you step on the gas the fuel pump is submerged in fuel so there is no starvation. I did several 1" beads to the floor and front of the sump to the bottom of the tank. I also cut a couple other braces as you can see. Its not going anywhere now.
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l43/BikeINK/Tank-mod-baffle-sump.jpg
Baffled welded in and sending unit mount.
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l43/BikeINK/Tank-Mod-6.jpg
This is what it looks like from inside the tank with the sending unit mounted. I mounted it closer to the rear so hopefully the reading will be accurate when driving. The float arm had to be bent down alittle so there is now about 1/2" between it and the bottom of the tank. This was also necessary for the float to go all the way to the top and register full correctly. Now I know when it reads empty I still have a little gas in the tank!
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l43/BikeINK/Tank-mod-inside.jpg
Shortend fuel pump housing. Should have taken a before picture but I forgot. It's about 2 1/2" shorter now and mounts straight up and down instead of the usual step over.
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l43/BikeINK/Tank-mod-fuel-pump.jpg
Here it is all welded up.
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l43/BikeINK/Tank-mod-7.jpg
Fuel pump and sending unit mounted! I can also use the Cobra's factory fuel lines. I'm going to use the evap canister as well so bye bye gas fumes.

Looks great. To test it out you could pour a gallon of gas in at a time and turn on the fuel pump to see when it starts to pick up and see what your gauge reads.

Progress has been slow with house renovations going on before the baby gets here. Got the inner fender panels made. Just got a new sheet of steel to make the recessed firewall. Im fabbing up the engine and tranny mounts this week. Will be taking the PCM next week to the performance shop to get the anti-theft taken off as well as the EGR, and rear 02's. Progress just slow progress. Just a pic for those who havent seen it.

Been awhile since I updated this. Hard to get alot of progress going and find time to post pics with a 6 week old baby and work. I did however find time to finish grafting in the Mustang firewall, and I also got the new core support made, which is removable! Reason Im using the Mustang firewall is because Im using pretty much everything out of the Mustang so now everything will bolt right up. I will be using the Mustang dash and gauges as well. Here's a couple pics which is about all I have time for at the moment.

Also here is a fun expensive little piece. Gets rid of the huge oil cooler/water outlet on the Cobra engine. Saves a ton of room and will have a remote mount oil filter as well. The adapter is made by Moroso and the fittings are meziere. Got about $175 tied up in this little piece.

Thanks guys. Yeah Im with you about the ugly rad support, with as nice as the rest of the engine bay will be I couldnt have that ugly piece sitting in there. I'm gonna redo the hood latch as well. Something a bit more pleasing to the eye.

If you want I can give you the measurements for the rad support.

Well Im using the Mustang column and it has a u-joint right where it comes out. Which works out good because then it will go right over the engine frame mounts. I do however have to weld a support bearing to the frame , basically a hiem joint. No biggie.

Well I got a few more things done. Core support is pretty much finished just have to drill some holes for the hoodlatch. Intercooler is mounted. This is is good for 450-500 HP which is plenty for me right now. Probably will be running one large turbo but havent decided yet. Im gonna keep the boost low till I get stronger pistons and rods.

Thanks, Im probably going to go with a shelby racing style front bumper or make one of my own have decided yet. If I do decide to keep the front bumper I'll just trim a little off the back sides of the filler panel. You could mount the IC lower but then you risk everything smashing into it. Where it is it's better guarded, plus some air can still hit the bottom of the radiator and come up through since its not totally blocked by the IC. I left several inches of space between the IC and the radiator so I hope cooling wont be an issue.

Nope lol. Went back to school, getting a degree is graphic design. I have to get away from this dead end job. Between working full time, going to school, and having an 11 month old baby, havent had much time for the Mav. I have been finishing up the daily driver Pinto project though.

I actually want to rework a few things on the Mav with the rear suspension and maybe the front also. But time will tell. Im not around here much anymore because I simply don't have the time.

That car is wicked so far, what I kinda think would be cool instead of a turbo setup would be a Kenne Bell or Eaton supercharger.

YouTube - 04 Kenne Bell Cobra fly-bys / wot passes (643rwhp/613rwtq)

Just listen to that! lol

Turbo's sound good too plus they're better for mileage and everything, but I thought one of those superchargers might go better with the Cobra theme. Either way it's gonna be a badass car though...
