ok quick run down. just traded for this car. wiring is very special (speaker wire and old extention cords). running lights go from solinoid to toggle switch. toggle switch to brown wire. all lights come on except pass rear. pull socket out and turn turn signal on and the light will blink with no running light. plug it in the tail light housing it gets really bright and you have to look really close to see second element blink. all other lights work properly but the passenger rear. any ideas guys?
Firts eliminate the toggle and ext cord. Then see what you have after the spaghetti is repaired properly. Then fix the bad ground or replace the bad socket.Do you have the correct bulb in the socket???
yes sir. 76 four door mav. toggle switch is only there for running lights. tho the other wires are still there they are non functional. replaced with 16gauge wire. tried adding a new ground and nothing.
Either the bulb is in backwords or the wires are connected to that socket 180 out. It sounds like the running light element is the one blinking while the turn / brake element is on with the running lights. The reason it's all dim or not working when the socket is not plugged into the housing is the socket uses the housing for a ground. If you have the socket out and want to see what's working, ground the piece of metal on the side (plastic socket) or the socket it's self (metal socket) on a piece of metal in the trunk and the light should work when the lights or turn signals are turned on. I also highly recommend fixing the wiring back to stock (sounds like the headlight switch is broke) before the shoddy wiring burns up. Speaker wire was never designed to be used for a heavy constant load. Hope this helps, -Scott H,
