k. finished the front hoses. decided to do the rear one. There is a rubber thing clamped to the threads on the bolt that hold the rear brake hose to the axle. The new one didn't come with this and I don't know how important it is. What do I do about this thing during the replacement? (re-use, discard, buy a new one, use hose without?)
i know this is probably way too easy of a question to be asking, but idk the answer and the hose didn't come with instructions. this is the last thing I have to do before taking it to get a tranny leak fixed tomorrow. Then on the road!!! (already got plates and insurance :bananaman)
congrats on your progress. I just replaced my rear brakwe hose and I don't remember any rubber cover. It may just be a cover to keep the threads from getting dirty/ corroded/ damaged. A pic would be helpful. I just looked at a blow up of the rear brakes. i dont see any rubber thing/ cover
thanks for the congrats! there was like two or three times what I thought needed to be done to get it on the road. here's a pic. I'll be driving in the mountains so brakes are a big concern. It's that thing held on by the clamp at the top. pretty sure all of this was from the factory..
It's the vent for the rearend housing, there should be a hose attached to it (but it is missing) Just replace the hose, with a new one, it'll keep any dirt from getting into the rearend housing. It tucks up into a hole in one of the trunk floor supports.
there is a hose coming out of my trunk under the car that is not attatched to anything, I guess that is it. It must have broken off. thnx. was concerned it helped keep my brakes working. I'll pick up another one after I finish the hose change.
What Dave said. I was just readying my tranny to pull and had to look to see what it was you were talking about. and it is indeed a vent hose. Doesn't concern the brakes but it is necessary
kewl. thnx. I got it back on. then broke the metal brake line. carquest sold me the wrong brake hose too. rear brake hose is getting moved to tomorrow. Thanks again. I'm gonna go check the forum for info on metal brake lines.
Thats exactly how my hose looked when I got the car. Make sure the hose has the plastic valve at the top. You might want to change that diff oil as well if its been driven like that. Could have some water in the oil.
ooph. i'll put that on the list but might not get done this week. i should just drill a drain hole. jk. I have to go back under there again once I can find the correct brake hose for the rear. I think I'll have to order online or get one made.
k. fixed the broken brake line and got it all re-assembled. bleed and test in the morning. thanx for the help guys. flaring isn't as bad as people make it out to be.
