Finally got this thing all figured out. Talk about more than one problem.:hmmm:

Heres the story as it unfolded over past few weeks. First thing to go was the igntion module as I pulled into the driveway. OK no big deal. Go that going with Larrys help and a used module. Got my new module go to fire it up, nobody home. Dead no spark. Plug in the old Motorcraft and she fires up. OK bad new part got that warranty replaced. Drive the car for a day and I have all kinds of idle issues that came out of nowhere. Rebuild the carb and find out the power valve is stuck open. OK that explains that. Runs OK except I have to adjust the floats way to far down to get the level right. Check fuel pressure and sure enough its too high. 9-11PSI. Ok so I have an electric someone mounted in the rear and a big Carter mechanical up front as I mentioned in another thread. Decide to get a pressure regulator and take out the electric. Install regulator and remove electric pump. Car ran fine for one day then I notice the fuel filter has drained back. Never done that before. Fire it up and yep no fuel pressure. The mechanical I chose to keep stuck a valve open internally. Likely damaged from have the electric feeding it full time. Get myself a new mechanical pump and finally set up the fuel pressure, floats and mixture and it sounds damn near perfect as far as I'm concerned. Hopefully the piece of crap gets me to work tomorrow so I can finish some other little bits on it. :dancing:
On the bright side it sure is nice to sit in the car without that electric pump buzzing away. (y)

My neighbor across the road has been ridin me pretty hard over all these issues. He figures my driveway is cursed since every thing happened in the driveway and not on the road. :) Hes building a 62 Nova so he knows what its all about. Going to give him a hand over the Winter. ITs a complete resto mod. 383 stroker dyno'd at 525 ponies with a 4 speed hydraulic clutch and a 12 bolt. Updated front A arm suspension and disc brakes. Its quite the piece of work if it gets back together. So far the little Mav is way faster since his is in pieces and I let him know it often. :rofl2:

Devils in the details Darren. The car allways does something to ya, get a problem ironed out and it will give you a new and more perplexing one next time around.

Well I'm here at work and she ran like a top. Took the highway this time to see how she ran. Smooth as silk 3200 rpm all the way to work. Gave me a chance to check out the secondaries as well. Let her drop down to around 50 then to the floor. Picks up to 85 real quick but after a few runs I think I need a lighter spring in the secondaries. Just a bit slow. Wish I had my old Holley box of goodies back. Guess I'll have to go by a couple. This engine sure likes to rev. Its very happy around 3200.
Think I might go to a quicker power valve while I'm at it. Feels like it could use it. Checked my kit and it was a 5.5 that went back in. Man its nice to get the big stuff done and be able to fine tune now. I figure it should be running great just about in time to put it away for the winter. Oh well bring on the Ice Fishin.:dancing:
