    I am replacing my waterpump...
I rebuilt the last one(original) but it was too shot to remain leak proof and began hemorrhaging two days ago around dark. I replaced both gaskets on the old one and it held for a month but no more.
Yesterday I get off work at 2 and head over to replace it and see that it was leaking on the drivers side at the gasket because the plate has a dent in it and is warped a little(I guess). No damage to the engine...weird. I buy a new one($15.89 NEW!) and by 4 oclock I am starting the install but the wife calls so I have to postpone til today.
It's raining of course and I am working on a lawn with nowhere to get cover so out will come the tarp. I have to do it though. I'm using gray sealant and the paper gasket that came with the pump. I noticed the new pump is stiffer than the old one. If you spun the old one it would spin freely, the new one won't.

    Wish me luck?

Be sure to use sealer on the longer bolts that go through the water jackets or it will leak

New ones are always stiff to turn. It will loosen up after it runs a bit. I feel for ya having to work in the rain. Been there done that before myself.

Hey,Good luck buddy! The new pump will not spin freely because the seals are new and tight so that's good!

where are you supposed to apply sealer on the bolt? Last week i changed the water pump on my tbird and i put sealer on the threads. Is this correct? The car is cooling great and doesnt leak.

Done. 2 hours in the rain with no cover and it runs fine. The long bolts(all the bolts) have some gray sealant on them and I tightened them all down as tight as I dared without breaking them. WHAT A PAIN. I did it all without taking out the radiator or the shroud off. My knuckles hate me for it. I drove 10 miles without a leak and when I got home i looked under with her still running and saw no drips...well, there were all sorts of drips but none were scalding hot! I have high hopes that it is all good now.

I also installed a new accelerator pump diaphragm and it has WAY less hesitation now. Still a little bogging but not as bad as before.
