I discovered that pedistal rockers wern't used til 79 . Since i have them, I need to find what engine I have. I did get the #'s off the heads, but couldn't EASILY get the motor #s. Head is 9B19. What can I learn from that #?
Ford went to positive stop/no-adjustable rail rockers in '68. In '74 they went to 14mm spark plugs. In '78 the went to stamp steel rocker arms. 9B19 is the code date... year, month, day. 19_9, February, 19th
Mid year 78' ford went to the pedestal type rockers. You have to look at the underside of the head(by the intake ports) to find the casting #s'.Its possible the heads were put on the early block at some point in its life. Not a biggie unless,Those are big chambered smog heads with small valves.
9B19 could be either 19 feb 1979, or 1989 or 1999. A look at the block's casting numbers will yeild another clue, unless someone just swapped the heads only. Also look at the bottom valve cover corner (front on the pass. side, rear on the drivers side, outside the cover) and see if there's one of these three letters: S, T or P. S will be E6SE heads, T will be E7TE's, P will be GT40P's. GT40 and GT40 P heads also have 4 vertical bars cast into the ends of the heads. If none of these clues are present, you've got the crapola D8OE's with huge 70 cc combustion chambers. The E6SE's are crappy too with deeper than normal 68 cc chambers and shrouded valves.
