i need a new fuel tank as quick as possible like with in the week where can find one???? i have a 1972 maverick 302ci i looked at autokrafters but there's needs a different fuel sending unit and i just bought a new one. i need help as soon as possible please???????
im just trying to get to running as soon as possible and dont really want to shell out the extra money for the conversion to a cell with the new sending units and gauges and pumps and all just looking for a new original tank. i know that the auto krafters tank needs a sending unit from a 76 77 maverick but i just bought a new sending unit for a 72.
You can use the sending unit from a 72 on the 76 style tank, your reading will just be off a bit. Rock Auto had 76 tanks for around $100 at one time, you just need longer bolts. Plus the vent on the top of the tank will need to be changed, there is a post with the Ford part number, try a search, and see what comes up, If not, I should have it saved.
ok but how off is the reading for the stock sending unit for 72 (thats what i just bought new) like can i life with the reading on it ??? if im right it would just say on the gauge that its empty when its really not right?
I paid around $127 for new tank with sending unit from Rock Auto. If you go this route...you might be able to sell your sending unit
ok yea i think im going to go that route and just return the sending unit bought it on ebay through autokrafters so i think i can so rock auto im searching it now to find it
mine was the same price but didn't come with sending unit. I got it from rockauto too. Put the 77 on my 71. the longer bolt straps were needed. I fabbed up a mold to attach my origonal vent on the top out of JB waterweld Good Luck!
ok thanks guys so ill just do that new tank, sending unit, just get new straps, and a new vent for that tank too anything else?? stock filler neck and gasket will work right? and harness for the sending unit ?
I re-used my original straps with the new tank... idk if I was supposed to but it worked . I just had to put and bend them alil. I ended up having to get 1 1/2" longer bolts instead of the 1" longer ones often recommended for this swap. The stock filler neck worked on my '71. I re-used the old gasket - just be careful removing it from the old tank. Permatex has a goo-type stuff that is supposed to hold up to gasoline I used around all of the gaskets to help. Had to cut my old bolts off with a hacksaw if that help? lol. If I think of anything else I'll post it. It was a fun project! - oh, my tank came with a new o-ring and locking thingy for the sending unit. um... I'll think of more as the night goes on.
thanks appmaverick and everyone tonight ill keep looking on here for anything else but i think i got a good idea of what i need and all thanks oh the new sending unit where do i find it on rock auto i found the tank and the straps but cant find the sending unit
I had to buy longer bolts too then cut them to length to work with my straps. If you can find a filler neck with the door inside it will stop the splash back when pumping gas.
I don't remember seeing the sending unit on rock auto when I did this a couple of months ago. I can't find it on autokrafters either. I know advanced auto could get the whole unit for somewhere around $160. I just needed the fuel float and sock so I just re-used my old one and don't have a gas gauge . Autokrafters has the same gas tank as rock auto for $220 dollars. I like the one I got from rock auto and it works fine but AK has some good info on their website about the tank and what it needs u might wanna check out. here's the link http://www.autokrafters.com/v4/go.g...products&show_product_id=536631&product=26261
thanks yea i that will help alot just need to track down the sending unit if anyone can kind one for a 75-77 sending unit
