Was just wondering about this. I tried looking it up on my copy of the Chilton's manual but can't seem to find the answer.

Or are there some tanks that will not fit onto certain years of the Mavs/Comets?

Early 70 won't fit a later model. I had no problem using a 76 tank in my 74...just buy longer bolts and cut the length.

I used a 69 mustang tank 20 Gal. had to move the passenger side strap a few inches, cut 1 1/4 inches off my filler neck then used the the mustang hose w/two clamps to connect filler neck to tank..used 69 sending unit and made my own vented gas cap.....
