My 302 holds good oil pressure and runs very good.. but ever since the rebuild 3 years ago I have battled blow by, always wiping off my valve cover.. well the guy that just bought my 74 said the pvc is hooked up wrong, it go's to my air cleaner, and should go to a port on the carb. Not creating a vacuum.. He says hook it up to the carb and your blow by will most likely go away...

Could it really be that simple (I sure hope so)

What kind of carb are you running? If it has a large nipple at its base...Hook the PCV valve hose there. If not, hook directly to intake manifold vacuum port if you have one on the intake. The PCV valve crates negative pressure on the crank case, preventing it from pressurizing from combustion pressure that gets past the rings.(normal ocurrance)...

I run an edlebrock 600cfm and the port has been pluged since it was new,the one on the bottom plate in back right ? The guy said use that vacuum port, the one on my intake is only fed by one runner, he said it will work but the carb. plate is better...

Yes use the carb base one...You should be able to get a screw in nipple without much difficulty.

Just be prepared to set up the carb when you connect the pcv. If you tuned it to run without pcv you'll need to set the carb. You need a fresh air source in the opposite valve cover also. It usually goes to a filter on the air breather or a push in filter on the rocker cover. Now your sucking out all those nasty crankcase fumes you need the clean air going in.

lol I never set up the carb in the 1st place i just bolted it on and enjoyed.. but I will gladly do that.. I have a push on breather/oil fill cap that is vented will that work ? I also have a new one that has a hose that im guessing go's to the nipple on the air cleaner, should I use that ?

If you use the one with the hose...you wont have oil slime on the cover. The open one is fine but you may still get slime on the cover around it.

What does the PCV valve do?
The PCV valve is NOT an emissions device.
The PCV valve does two things:
    1. get rid of explosive and flammable gasses in the crankcase.
    2. lower the pressure in the crankcase.
2a. the lower pressure in the crankcase keeps the rings pulled to the bottom of their respective lands.
2a1. rings that are pulled to the bottom of their lands seal better and make more power.

The PCV valve is so necessary to making HP that when there is not enough vacuum to make it work there are evacuator systems that are used to replace it.

That 600 edelbrock will run just as well with the pcv hooked up, if it is still in "out of the box" setup.

That is a very forgivving carb.
