Just wondering....since ive been driving my '75 2dr for the past cpl of weeks i have noticed that after it gets warm the "engine" (oil) light will faintly flicker while ur driving it. I changed out the oil sending unit with no affect. Engine doesnt smoke, tick, knock or anything so im wondering if the pump itself is just a little weak..... Any thought?

Sounds like cam bearings are going bad. Run 30wt oil and see if it helps.

Well i know cam and main bearings count for most of an engine's oil psi but the engine/trans are a matching set from a car that had 40k or so original miles so its kinda hard for me to believe the bearings are worn....

But yeah, im gonna do an oil change with some 10w30 or 10w40 oil and see what happens

You can damage an engine in 25 miles if you run it low on oil one time. A clogged oil filter will open the bypass in the filter. All engines will burn oil…it’s in the design. Oil splashes on the cylinder wall and fills the cross hatch and is burned off on the power stroke. Too much clearance in the oil pump could also be the problem but an oil change is cheaper than a oil pump and pan gasket.

If that is really 40k original miles on the engine its not the cam bearings or the oil pump. There is something else going on. If the engine runs OK and no noise you may want to check the wiring. If the light is faint you could have a short. Worse case you may have a lot of junk in the oil for what ever reason than you need to drop the oil pan and check the oil screen and the bottom of the oil pan.

    my thoughts exactly....

changed the oil today, and still the same problem so it looks like a new oil pump is in order. if that doesnt help, ill drop a stock 302 in it and say the hell with it :thumbs2:

Screen stopped up.....had a 302 in a Town Car once that did that. Steadily got worse until it stayed on all the time, at which time the owner shut it down. I got it for a song, pulled the pan, pulled oil pump [which was a job with the engine still in the car]. Pump was fine, screen was full of caked up burnt oil. Poured gas into screen, tossed a match, junk burns out. Cleaned real good, put everything back together, no more problems.
