Got a 1bbl carb that I want to try my hand at rebuilding. Autozone sells a kit for the RBS so I will eventually go and get it. But anyways, what are some things to keep track of when removing the carb? there are many videos on YT of 4 bbl and 2 bbl removals but none of 1bbls. Cheers!
Get out your camera and take pics of everything step by step. That will help you out the most when putting it back together. You'll love how the rebuilt one runs.
Do take pictures beforehand of where all the hoses are hooked up. Do have a fire extinguisher nearby. DONT smoke while working on the carb...
Cover up your intake manifold with a rag immediately after you remove the carb. Little parts trays for all your bolts and screws are awesome. Magnetic ones are more awesome. Block off enough time to start and finish it within a few hours, so it's fresh on your mind when you put it back together. "Carb dip" is good stuff. Not totally necessary but will save some elbow work and help it come out looking nice and pretty. Compressed air, q-tips, pipe cleaners, old toothbrushes and paperclips are all things that might come in handy. Work in a ventilated area. My wife tells me the kitchen is no good for this, even with a window open. But the purple rhinos and disco smurfs said it's alright.
This is a must.....last time i didn't do this..... it got me this. a hex wrench dropped into the engine... and cracked the piston and the block.
Oh, you know that guy too? He's awesome. He always comes around to help whenever I'm adjusting my timing or trying to get the idle just right. Damned if I know how he gets in there with the garage door closed though.
