Is the concept of switching over to newer style tail light plugs (the kind that have a separate wire to ground them and twist in instead of being jammed in) as simple as splicing them in and properly grounding the ground wire or what? I'm just not too happy with the design of the stock ones. I have a full set of plugs from a Geo and I'm wondering if they (or any others) may be suitable candidates.
Should work, no problem. The old ones just ground out through the spring-loaded flappie doohickies. Mine don't work half the time unless I twist them and renew the grounding surface between the two pieces. I am about to rewire mine, since my reverse lights don't work. Haven't figured out where that fault lies. It is one of the simpler circuits on this car, but still, cannot find the fault.
Reverse lights are becoming an issue for me, too. Lucky enough I went to my hometown garage for my inspection. I'm going to try to do this whenever I put the 1967 impala lights on later this month.
a lot of the old fold guys used to tell me that they would solder a wire to the socket then ground it, i've been meaning to do that for a long time but i keep on forgetting.
when I did the new wiring system on my Mav. i bought new rear sockets and they had a grounding spade on each one. ...Frank...
