Howdy yall! I bought my 76 Maverick last year and after many battles with gas tank rust, countless pumps and and lots of carb work i finally got everything worked out. But I did notice along the way that the in line 6 can be torquey but lags quite a bit. Decided to do a 302ci swap an found a clean block. I want to use an rv cam so i can get the most out of the small block but i'm not sure what to look for. idle to 5500 rpm sound about right. Have any suggestions???
did you get a bare block, short block, or long block? a performer intake and a 600 cfm or smaller 4bbl carb will work nicely. i would recomend geting a long block from a 87 or newer mustang or any other ford that has a roller motor. they are more efficent and will give your more power.
Good call. I was thinking i might go with a Weiand intake and 600 cfm double pumper. I'd like to build it up for higher compression but I wont have the money for the pistons for a while. While we're on the subject of rear end, my rear end is stock. I'm not sure what it is> Something for highway gearing. I'd like to use a nine inch at some point.
any thing is possible. there are lots of options for the rear end. what is your intended use of the car? how much highway driving will you do? do you plan on changing the trans.?
