Is it okay to reuse these once? If not did any mod motor come with head studs? I have to do a repair on my daily(95 4.6sohc) and right now i dont have the extra $100 to buy the bolts. If any came with studs then i could probably find a used set cheap or try the junkyard.

Ford recomends one use only, but I do know people who have on daily drivers and they seem to work OK....

They can be torqued two or three times max before needing to be changed.

I found some for 32 but they are no name brand. Napa and vatozone only have chinese ones. Oreilys are only ten bucks cheaper then a new set of OE ones. Then those are only ten bucks cheaper then arp studs. Decision, decisions.

Here is an article that explains how the head bolts are designed and work. http://www.acl.co.nz/Tech/Torque To Yield Headbolts.pdf
I am not saying that you cannot re-use them but the design of the bolt is that they are one use only bolts. Why take the chance of them failing? Kinda the same as building a $8,000 to $10,000 engine. I have seen people put a wad of money in an engine and then use cheep rings or barrings. Just doesn't make sense to me. Get the new bolts or studs and then you will have piece of mind and not have to do it again down the road.

Even Ford isn't consistent with TTY bolt questions. Years ago I ran GT40P heads with Ford's graphite head gaskets and TTY bolts. I asked their tech line about reusing TTY bolts and was told they could be torqued up to 3 times. Weeks later I callled about another issue but the question about TTY bolts came up again and I was told I could reuse 1 time. The local dealer told me they are not reuseable. 'Course they like to sell me new ones. I ended up buying ARP head studs for about the same money.

The only reason i would take a chance is that i wont have the money till next weekend. So that would mean im out a whole week without a means of transportation. Which means i wont make money for a whole week. But then again i dont want to have to do the repair again. Im probably just going to buy the 32 dollar bolts and give them a try, just hope that there not from china.

I have seen where people have re-used them (John Deere engines) and they get any where from 100-300 hours out of them before a failure. On those engines it usually resulted in a coolant leak which then became an overheated engine.

I always wondered where vatozone came from.....thought it just might have been a regional name or something, like Checker, Schucks, and Kragen is Advance Auto around here....
