While putting in my A/C Heater Box, I found a purple wire with silver dashes that is fastened along the bottom edge of the dash and terminates next to the passenger side kick panel. It has a very small female connector on it ... looks like the connecting end would be about the size of an MP3 player headphone jack. It doesn't look like it was ever used for anything ... anyone know what this is for?
ITs an ambient temp sensor. Someone on here once told me its use. I forget though. Maybe ran a vacuum solenoid for timing control? That rings a bell but I'm not sure.
I have only seen the thermister on California cars. Are you sure the wiring is not for the seatbelt warning light?
Sounds to me like its to the passenger seat belt warning light like Craig Selvey said. It is just missing, or not connected to the wire that runs down under the seat.
My car is one of the first few hundred 1972s out of KC. Probably got a seat belt light wire, but no light was installed in the dash.
Texas car here with one. I cleaned it up and left it on the car since it was easier than sealing up the hole from it.
