I think we all know that when restoring a car, one task at hand frequently spawns three "other things to do while you are in there". Here's how it can work regarding your garage space, too .... I had to find a late wiper switch to send to another board member who bought it. I suspected that I put it in a box that I keep as parts for Mavs that won't work on my car, and a due to be eBayed, etc. The most common-sense place for it to be. Didn't find it there .... This lead to searching through ALL my Mav/Comet parts. No huge stash like some other folks here. It can be contained in 20 square feet, but actually is in three areas of my garage. Didn't find it in there either .... This lead to a sweep of the entire garage. Maybe it fell behind or under something. Nope .... Go through my workbench harder. That was where I saw that switch last. No dice .... Now I am getting a bit agitated. Along the way, I start muttering about stuff in the garage that really needs to go ... a pretty good pile of trash starts moving out the door. Now I start to think back. There was a board member who was talking about wiper switches. I don't think I sold it to him, but now I have some tiny creeping doubts, so I start going through all my old emails here. No emails mentioning it, but I did delete 2/3rd of all my old messages that were stored. Go through all the Mav/Comet parts again. Don't find it, but I am looking at things harder. Actually physically take everything out of the boxes.... On this pass, I do find I didn't see the first time around ... A) The Mustang seat release knobs that I was sure I stashed away, but couldn't find, and need right now. Found a nice spare, too. B) A replacement driver's door weatherstrip that I don't ever remember grabbing ... must have been long ago. I will need that very soon. C) Little extra parts that I had tucked away for my daily driver that has been gone for 2 years ... into the trash with those. D) Lots of little parts for the Comet I grabbed a dozen years ago. They are now stored under the new "system" that I have when the pile exceeded the ability to just toss all of it into a couple boxes. E) At least a dozen parts I had forgotten about that need to go to eBay the next time work gets a little sluggish. At long last, I find that switch. It was in the FIRST box I looked at ... the one where it would have made the most sense for it to be.... in a baggie, labelled and ready to go. Probably didn't see it at first because I was expecting it to look more like a headlight switch, and I glossed over it ... grrrrr...... But now I have a cleaned-up message boxes here, a clean reorganized garage with about 15 more sq. feet of usable space, stored parts make a little more sense, an overflowing pile of trash that leaves tomorrow, and found a couple of parts that I need right now. Not bad ....
I know what you mean, I gave up looking for my battery hold down and just bought another one... My garage is only 16X33 and still can't find things....lol
