My 12 year old wants me to fix up my old college car (72 Mav) with him. This alone is perhaps enough to work on it, but what are the other reasons.
I must admit that I was surprised to see a real car club for Mavericks. I know I don't see many on the road and even swap meets, but I never thought of why.
If anyone could give me more reasons to work it, it might give me some ammunition to allocate money towards the work. (get my wife to agree in otherwords)
I loved my old car and have kept it for the last 23 years pretty much on blocks. I would like to know some of the reasons you all like yours.
lars, if you kept it for 23 years it must mean more to you than you realize. sounds like a great father-son project. plus it will teach him (and you) alot of things. i like my maverick because not every one has one and it can be a sharp looking car if fixed up there are many bolt on mods you can do, from a six to an eight. you might look at some of the pictures posted on this board of some of the members restored cars. i think both car craft and hot rod have named the maverick as one of the next generation of cars to be popular. good luck. let us know a little more. is it a six or eight, standard or grabber, 2 or 4 door, etc. also if you get a chance you might check out some of the maverick shows.
p.s. if you have any questions this is a great board for information
That slogan should be on the cover of hot rod or something...
The Mav is one of those cars that go both ways... With some aftermarket mods (very cheap compared to "muscle cars" (stripe kit and wheatherstrip for my T/A is just under two grand not to mention the the seat covers 995!!!) you can can have a sharp looking economy car (well you know that flowmaster will keep 'em guessing) that you won't mistake at the grocery store... OR... with just a few more dollars you can can have yourself one Camaro smokin machine that the Honda kids just won't make any sense of....
Ok... Kids these days need a hobby and a reason to get a job... Viola!!! Your boy is going to get a mind of his own very soon and your going to find it harder and harder to stay on the same page with him this is great way to spend quality time with him, don't pass it up....
Why do I like my Maverick? Well just look at it. I caught the Maverick bug in 94 when I was a freshmen in high school. I found this one and spent the next 7 years making it what it is. The feeling of accomplishment was enough to justify all the money and work.
i always liked the early mavericks. i work in a tow yard and when one came up for our auction i got it. it is a grabber v8 auto my favorite combo. ive had a lot of different cars but the maverick is something special. it reminds me of a nicer time. to me the maverick is in the same arena as the mustangs and camaros but those things are too costly and too common. we have the rarer of the bunch! hope you decide to fix her up. mike
Fuzz has the right idea!!!! DO NOT pass up this opportunity to work with your son or daughter (can't remember if you stated that)!! The car is immaterial at this point. Who cares what it is, just do it!!!
sentimental reasons are the biggest reason, and sound like you have those. These cars are no longer common. Element of surprise is the best reason. These cars are almost a mustang/falcon. Everything that will work for those cars, works for the maverick. They weigh almost nothing, and everyone you smoke in arace will never know what you are driving, go for it man.
reason number one is reason enough. i bought a 72 myself just to give my son and i somethig to do together. that alone justifies the cost!!!!! gees we've even slept in it togther a month ago when it was 17 degrees outside! he's always gonna be your son but he'll only be your buddy for so long. then he'll get married then..... well that's another thread
i am todmegs son and i can say if you want justification just wait
when you hve it remsembling slmost there...
you feel all the justification in the world
that is if the smile that just tore your sons cheeks is justifiction enough
when me and my dad put that grill and eyelids(headlight doors) on
i was so happy just to see the whole front end done to perfection at the time
then when we got buckets, well...
ok we put them in , we sat in them
the great thing is i think that the car just likes em beter
Its temperment has slowed greatly and it just a happier car all around anyway i gotta go to school
