1972 Maverick Grabber Resto/Mod for my Dad

Hey, you might want to get another set of springs.

It's going to come down, but that's pretty stinkin' high in back. Maybe normal for 1984, but not so normal for 2014.

 

Dont rain on his parade, you know he is going to get the new springs on it and it will sit just right or he will get another set if they dont work right, there is no way he is going through all this work and not be as close to perfect as he can get it.

He can always save the springs for his next project a four wheel drive Maverick

I always thought they looked like the wrong ones. Also seems the wheel sits forward of the well..

 

I noticed that too. Of course the axle moves back as the spring compresses.

However, I also noticed that the front wheels look too far back in the wheel arch.

 

The rear leaf springs will be changed out with the proper springs. I purchased from a highly recommended company on this site and I obviously did not get the right springs. Once I can stay in town for more than 2 days due to my job, I will get them swapped out.

As for the front suspension, I am using the total control products coilover suspension and the car is nowhere close to being aligned. I will do that once the car is together and I have the full weight of the vehicle on the suspension.

I hope this is a clear explanation on this subject and it will clear any confussion that anyone may have.

 

Yeah, I knew you were getting new rear springs. I was just commenting on blugene's comment, as I noticed early on the same thing he did.

What I'm seeing up front is probably caster adjustment, eh?

 

And I was commenting on the ongoing subject. Sorry.. .. Guess i'm itching to see more lol

I haven't had much time lately to work on the maverick due to being out of town for business almost every week. I finally took some time off and got a little done.

I got the leaf springs swapped out and installed the rear axle bumpers. I got to work on a little bling on the 9 inch rear axle. I also installed new trunk bumpers. I was going to install the gas tank but I am thinking that see the results in the new springs and the feedback that I have read about calvert racings springs and the fact they do not tend to sag that I am working with Calvert Racing and getting a set that has a 1" drop built into them.

The swap from the esco springs to the Calvert Racing Springs dropped the back at the wheel well 3 1/2". Looks better but I wanted a slightly lower stance hence the exchange for the ones with a 1" drop built into them.

No disrespect intended, but all that should have been dialed-in before the car was painted.

 

I have been working with Calvert Racing on these springs. This is the first set sold that were made with street driving in mind. The springs are not listed in there catalog. I knew the first set of springs from the other company were going to be to tall for the car and I knew that when they were installed the first time that they would need to be replaced. That is when I called Calvert Racing and spoke with a representative over other ideas when he offered the new springs. They have amazing customer service and is willing to work with you on your set up.

It is worth the extra 40 minutes to swap out the leaf springs to hopefully create another option for maverick and comet owners.
