As some of you know, we will be building a console for Mavericks & Comets. I need to finalize the measurement from the transmission hump, to the package tray, or glove box panel. We want to have this fit most cars without any modifications, so I'm trying to determine the average measurement of the space, in between the two. Doesn't matter what you have in your car, carpet, no carpet, Dynamat, ice shield, whatever. I want this to appeal to as many people that might be interested. Any other questions, about the console can wait. For now, I just want measurements.
1970 - stock original carpet with heat reflective padding. 6 3/8" resting on the carpet 6 3/4" when I press the ruler into the carpet gently
Keep in mind that the 70 tunnel is the smaller tunnel with the more rounded top - I just replaced mine with the later flat top tunnel and it is a bit different
6-5/8" with 70 package tray (w/solid bottom), late dash (w/square corners), 2 layers of Peel & Seal, 2 layers of jute padding and carpet
I want there to be a slight gap, so there is no noise from vibration, so it looks like I'm getting close to a 6 1/2" final height, but the more we can measure, the better. Thanks to everyone so far.
I have a Granada console installed in my car so I could only measure from the tray down to the corner of the hump. I get 6 and 7/8ths. I suspect there is some crown to the hump in the center. My floor has two layers of Peel-N-Seal and unpadded carpet over the top of the hump.
5 7/8" with extra 1/4" padding under the carpet to the ribbing of the package tray which is the lowest point of the package tray.
