I've been looking at an '89 Town Car at a used car dealership next to where I work and I was wondering if anyone could VIN check 1LNBM82F1KY806443

The interior is decent but the body is a little beat up on the passenger side. I want as much info as I can so I can try and negotiate them down quite a bit. I know it's been on their lot quite a while.

How much are they wanting for it?

There's no price listed on the car at the moment, so I'm hoping it isn't an arm and a leg. From what I've heard about the guy that runs the dealership, he picks his cars up for dirt cheap and just wants to move em. NADA values the car at $1500. Hagerty isn't as generous, they value it at $900. If it runs/drives really well, max I'm willing to pay is $2000-$2200

That means you go in there browsing other similar year cars and casually(uninterested) ask about the Lincoln... Don't offer more than $1200-1500 max...

I dunno about your area, but here a 25 year old LTC in average cond won't bring more than $500-$800 at auction...

I'm going to go in tomorrow morning and check it out before work. I'll update you guys with how it goes. I certainly won't be heart broken if this opportunity doesn't work out but it'd certainly be an awesome car to cruise around in. I think I'd even consider using it as a learning tool for body work and other processes and repairs/upgrades that I don't know much about. I'd love to do that kind of thing on my Maverick but since it's my daily driver, I can't do anything that would leave it undriveable for longer than a day and a half or so.

It was an overpriced turd. They wanted $3000 and turned down my offer of $2400 out the door. However, I found out that my bank will get me an auto loan with a very attractive interest rate no problem, so I'll just hold out until I find something nicer that might be worth financing with a short term loan.

Figures, down at my buddies car lot it wouldn't been more than $1800-$2K...

For a Town Car the 1990 is what I'd look for, new body style and still had the 5.0... Beginning '91 they switched to 4.6 and valve stem seals are always bad through '95... In a 4.6 they are a major bitch to replace... Have half of a T-shirt on that one... Replaced passenger side in my '92, said screw the driver side...

Watch Craigslist for something from a private seller... Was a one owner '87 Grand Marquis with 32K mi on the local CL maybe a year ago... Started at $3300 was down to $2400 before it finally sold... I have liked to had it but would have to sold my '98 I paid $4500 for in '10... It's a one owner, garage kept with 33K mi(has 62K now)... Deals are out there, keep your eyes open...

I might end up waiting for the right '03+ Crown Vic deal to come along. I love the Panther platform and the '03+ are the cream of the crop as far as those cars go. There's an '05 being sold a couple counties south of me from the PD that purchased it new for $3250 obo with 123k on it
