Are you sifting the sand and reusing it? Makes the sand last longer not having to use NEW sand every time.
Thanks! The first 50 or so pounds came out of my cabinet and was well-used. I am NOT re-using the stuff after I blast the engine compartment. I had thought about a tarp and such, but it sounded like more work and time than I really wanted to deal with. I just need to get off the couch and go buy some sand... The two inches of rain we are getting tomorrow will wash-away all the sand that's in the driveway right now.
Well, I finally got the call from the guy in Ontario that I bought my wheels from 6 months ago. He sent these two pictures in a text message, and they are on their way to New Brunswick to join their wheels. The chrome isn't really good, but I plan on investigating some options with using the reproduction Mustang caps with the Maverick centers. I was also lucky enough to meet up with fellow MMB member 77comet a few weekends ago at a car show, who surprised me with a center cap he had found many, many moons ago! Thanks Kevin!!
I have the auto krafters firewall insulation in my car. If I remember correctly it required some slight trimming but fit well otherwise.
What kind if wheels do you have? Are the mustang centers the same? What year mustang and what type of wheel? And where do you get the maverick centers?
That's good to hear! I am still waiting for mine on back order (3 weeks). John, I have an original set of Maverick Aluminum Slots. These are the same wheels and centers that Dan Hines has on his car (my inspiration). I found them on-line in Ontario Canada. When I contacted the seller, he also mentioned he had the caps somewhere, but he had a hard time finding them. I got my cousin to pick the wheels up last August and his father-in-law drove them the 1,200kms to me after Christmas 2013. They are the same wheel/cap combo that was offered on the 73 Mustangs. The Maverick and Comet chrome pieces actually have the D3ZA Mustang part number on the backs of them. The reproductions look like the emblem is held onto the cap a bit differently, but I am looking into the possibility of using them to swap my Maverick emblems into if required. The reproduction caps are available in BLACK and RED centers. I just don't want to have Mustang centers on my Maverick and have to listen to all the 'experts' at car shows.
a friend of mine has a set of maverick original slots and center caps 200 for the set should I get them?
If you plan on swapping the 4-lug brakes that are presumably on your car, then sure! I paid $180 CDN for mine and had them delivered by a family member for free. Just make sure they are 74+ wheels, not the 73's. The 74+ wheels have larger center bores to accomodate the larger hub diameters on the disc brake cars 74+. If the Maverick centers are included, and are in good shape, go for it!!
I haven't posted any pictures in a while, but I have been busy trying to get more sandblasting done (an hour or so at a time ) Anyway, here are a few pictures as more of an update to where I'm at...
