we are about ready to take the plunge. I have yet to see any pics of the oil filter relocated.

will the typical Ford Motorsport 90 degree adapter work with the headers? or does it have to be remotely mounted

Can the mechanical fuel pump be retained with the ford motorsport adapter if a shorter filter is use (ph43/ph16/fl300a/etc) and the adpater oriented slightly downward

can the rear tubes (3-4 and 7-8) be removed and installed without undoing the motor mounts.

there was a great thread on this, with awesome pics but the oil filter aspect was not covered.

I have never seen where an oil filter had to be relocated for headers on a 289/302. That would be a new one on me.

Consider it a 'new one' then!

What's the difference with them? I've used other long tube headers without having to do that.

On the Crites headers, the front 2 cylinders on each bank (1-2 and 5-6) head straight down and go under the front suspension. They run right thru the real estate where the oil filter is. Thats why you have to run the adapter or a remote filter. This is a very similar design as some of the 302B and 351C swap headers in mavericks and 65-66 have done. Here is a pic of the headers.

If it is that close, relocate the oil filter to the fender apron instead of trying to clock the filter.

They are making small block headers Right Now!!!!! So there isnt a wait. Im debating on a 351w set or a 302 set. The 351w models fit te 8.2" (289/302) but they hang low and may be too low. Thinking hard right now!

I prefer not to do a remote, not becuase of unfamiliarity, but rather we are trying for a very specific look. But remote may be the surefire way.

Looks like the same Crites header I used on my 64 Fairlane. I ended up cutting them up stepping each tube twice to 2 inch and making them closer to equal length. I no longer use an oil filter adaptor. This is on a drag race only vehicle. Crites is not concerned with equal length.

I agree on both sides. Most all of the Crites have a very similar path, regardless of body and motor family. And yes, I agree the Crites are more of a functionality fit and less of a real performance design with equal lengths.

We are looking at some used and cheap (but never ran) 6208's or some Crites. I love the Crites look as well as ease of installation, but I know the Hooker is more proper design. but I have yet to see actual confirmation of the 6208's working on a 8.2 deck motor in a maverick without mods, supposedly pretty involved.

However, I dont want to limit ourselves, that is why I am looking at header designs that work for 9.5" motors, BUT still can be used with no, or minimal, mods on a 8.2" motors. I would really like to do a 9.5" stroker based motor and dress it out like an FE in his maverick. those Crites Headers, along with some pentroof valve covers (with adapters) and an expansion tank would really really be sweet.
