I weighed my '72 driver door not that long ago ... this was without the interior trim and the glass was out of it, but it had the window mech still installed. It came in right around 65 lbs. It would be interesting to see how much that bar weighs.

My doors are off also. I will be looking into removing the bars also. I do caution anyone that tries to carry or lift them by the window frames. Could tweek it.

Today I cut the crash bar out of the drivers door..... Then mocked up the power window regulators, I had to make them and the door release handles work together..... I made some new door panels backs with clip holes, door release holes, door pull holes and holes for the window switches..... I'll be able to get the door panels to the upholstery guy so he can get them done for me when he has time.....

Here's a couple pic's of the door panels.....

Cool! I also want to make custom door panels to ditch my window crank handle. I can't wait to see the finished product! (y)

The early Maverick/Comets doors do not have the crash bars and as stated would be 14 pounds lighter :)

Today I put some reinforcement pieces in the door for the new door pulls..... I plug welded them in the door, cleaned up the welds, drilled and taped them for the retainer bolts..... I also drilled the front of the door for the power window wire loom to feed thru..... I sanded and cleaned up the inner panels, then I painted the bottom inside of the doors with POR15 for protection..... Last thing, I masked the door up and painted the interior blue on the door.....

Here is the reinforcements plug welded in place.....

This is the stuff that I love to see on your build, Frank. Not just a rebuild thread, but picking up and fixing things where the engineers left off and cut things short because the bean counters were looking over their shoulders.

Keep up the excellent work and I learn something new almost every time I peek in here.

This morning I got the door all masked up, sanded, bare metal spots primed and painted..... I cleaned up and hinge brackets where they bolted to the doors and painted them with a brush to help protect them..... Then I unmasked the doors.....

Here is one of the doors masked, primed and painted.....

Doors look amazing like everything else... Crazy guy, doors make me nervous when adjusting them let alone taking them off/putting on.. Always think ill chip something. My drivers door has needed a tiny adjustment since last August lol. Scared to do it.
