My all time favorite Ford drag racer is/was Dyno Don Nicholson. I absolutely feel in love with the old SOHC 427 Maverick, which led me to buy my first car, a 72 Maverick Grabber in 1973. I followed every move Dyno made. It was a young man's hero worship in every sense of the word. I actually met both Dyno and Kaase in 1977 at a match race at Dragway 42 in West Salem, Ohio in 1977 when I was bracket racing my 69 428 SCJ Mustang. He was running a 406 all aluminum Cleveland on the match race circuit in his Mustang II. I hesitantly approached him in the staging lanes and to my surprise, he was very accommodating and took time out to chat with me about his match race engine. Dyno was everything I expected him to be. An overtly friendly guy who always had time for his fans. A long haired Kaase was adjusting the valves on the Cleveland stroker and smiled while Dyno was explaining his 406 combo to me. I am not surprised that Dyno and Jon were so successful. They were two exceptionally fine people. I was so lucky to have met one of the greatest Ford racers of all time.
A member of this board owns the sister car to Dyno's Maverick. The Mr. Rollbar car is sitting in a shop in Iowa being rebuilt. He has a lot of Dyno stuff. Hopefully Mitch will chime in here and share. SPark
